This procedure replaces a faulty power mirror motor assembly on the 2018-2024 Honda Accord 1.5L Turbo. The job requires removal of the door panel to access the mirror assembly from inside the door.

Warnings

Disconnecting the battery will reset radio presets and clock settings
ℹ️Work carefully around door panel clips to avoid breaking them during removal
Do not force mirror motor connectors; they have locking tabs that must be released first

Parts

  • Power mirror motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification for specific mirror type
  • Door panel clips (if broken during removal) × 1 — Honda OEM door panel clip set

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal using 10mm socket and wait 3 minutes before proceeding
  3. Lower the window approximately 4 inches to allow access to door panel fasteners
  4. Identify which mirror (driver or passenger) requires replacement

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel lower fasteners
Remove the Phillips screw from the bottom rear corner of the door panel. Use panel removal tool to carefully pry out the lower trim panel securing clips along the bottom edge of the door panel. Start from the rear and work forward.
  2. 2
Remove door handle and window switch assembly
Insert panel removal tool behind the window switch panel at the front edge. Carefully pry upward to release the clips. Disconnect the window switch connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight up. Remove the Phillips screw behind the door handle trim. Pry the door handle trim away and disconnect the interior door handle cable by rotating it 90 degrees and unhooking.
  3. 3
    Remove door panel
Locate and remove any remaining Phillips screws securing the door panel (typically one in the armrest area). Using panel removal tool, work around the perimeter of the door panel to release the retaining clips. Lift the door panel upward to disengage it from the window sill, then pull away from door. Rest the panel safely on a protected surface.
  4. 4
    Remove vapor barrier access
Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet only in the area behind the mirror location. The barrier is typically held with butyl sealant. Peel back just enough to access the mirror mounting bolts and electrical connector—do not remove the entire barrier.
ℹ️Preserve the vapor barrier integrity; it provides moisture protection for door components
  5. 5
    Disconnect mirror electrical connector
Locate the mirror wiring harness connector inside the door. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector. If equipped with power folding mirrors, there will be an additional connector for the folding motor—disconnect both.
  6. 6
    Remove mirror assembly from door
Locate the three 10mm mounting bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame (accessible from inside the door). Remove all three bolts and carefully extract the mirror assembly from the outside of the door. Support the mirror from outside to prevent it from falling.
Have an assistant support the mirror from outside, or use tape to prevent it from falling when the last bolt is removed
  7. 7
    Separate mirror motor from housing
With mirror assembly on workbench, locate the screws or clips securing the motor assembly to the mirror housing. On most Accord mirrors, remove the three small Phillips screws on the back of the housing. Carefully separate the motor assembly from the mirror glass carrier. Note the orientation of the motor and any alignment pins.
  8. 8
    Install new mirror motor
Position the new mirror motor into the mirror housing, aligning any guide pins or mounting tabs. Ensure the motor drive mechanism properly engages with the mirror glass carrier. Install and tighten the retaining screws to secure the motor.
  9. 9
    Reinstall mirror assembly to door
Feed the mirror wiring harness through the door opening. Position the mirror assembly on the door and align the three mounting bolt holes. Install the three 10mm mounting bolts and torque to specification.

  10. 10
    Reconnect electrical and test
Reconnect the mirror electrical connector(s) inside the door, ensuring they click into place. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal and test mirror operation in all directions (up, down, left, right) using the mirror switch. If equipped, test power folding function. Disconnect battery again before continuing reassembly.

  11. 11
    Reseal vapor barrier
Press the vapor barrier sheet back into position, ensuring the butyl sealant adheres properly around all edges. Verify complete seal to prevent water intrusion into the door.
  12. 12
    Reinstall door panel
Reconnect the interior door handle cable by hooking it in place and rotating 90 degrees. Position door panel and engage the top edge over the window sill. Press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all Phillips screws. Reconnect window switch harness and snap the switch panel into place. Install any remaining trim pieces.
  13. 13
    Final battery connection
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Reset the power window auto-up/down feature by fully lowering each window, then fully raising and holding the switch up for 2 seconds after the window closes.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Verify all door panel clips are properly seated and the panel is flush with the door frame
  2. Test all door panel switches and controls for proper operation
  3. Ensure door opens and closes smoothly without interference from the panel

Verification

  • Test mirror adjustment in all four directions using the mirror control switch
  • Verify mirror moves smoothly without binding or unusual noise
  • If equipped with power folding, test the fold and unfold function completely
  • Check that mirror holds position and does not drift after adjustment
  • Verify heated mirror function if equipped by running defroster
