Preparation

    Loosen the hose clamp at the air filter box outlet using a flat blade screwdriver or 8mm socket. Loosen the clamp at the turbocharger inlet. Wiggle the hose gently while pulling to remove it from both connections. Inspect the hose for cracks, oil residue, or collapsed sections.

    Disconnect PCV and breather hoses
    Using needle nose pliers, compress the spring clamps on the PCV hose connection at the intake tube and valve cover. Slide the clamps back and pull the hose off. Also disconnect any breather hoses connected to the air intake system. Note their positions for reassembly.

    Remove turbo inlet hose (if applicable)
    If replacing the turbo inlet hose, loosen the clamp at the turbocharger compressor inlet and at the intercooler outlet. Carefully work the hose off both connections. This hose is under high boost pressure and must seal properly.

    Check both intercooler inlet and outlet pipes for cracks, especially at bend points. Look for oil residue which indicates a turbo seal issue or excessive blow-by. Examine all connection points for damage or wear.

    Apply a small amount of soapy water to the connection points to ease installation if needed. Slide the new hose onto the air filter box outlet first, ensuring it seats fully. Route the hose to the turbocharger inlet and push firmly into place. Install new hose clamps and position them over the beaded sections of the connections.

    Tighten all hose clamps
    Tighten all hose clamps securely using a flat blade screwdriver or 8mm socket. Ensure clamps are positioned over the raised bead of each connection point. Do not overtighten spring clamps. Verify each connection is fully seated before tightening.

    Reconnect PCV and breather hoses
    Push each PCV and breather hose onto its respective connection point until it seats fully. Slide the spring clamps back into position over the connection using needle nose pliers. Ensure all small vacuum lines are reconnected.

    Reconnect MAF sensor
    Push the MAF sensor electrical connector onto the sensor until the locking tab clicks into place. Tug gently to verify it is secure.

    Reinstall air filter and cover
    Place the air filter element back into the air filter box with the correct orientation (check directional arrows if present). Position the air filter box cover and press down firmly until both clips snap into place. Reinstall the engine cover by aligning the grommets and pressing down.

Reassembly

  1. Double-check all hose clamps are tight and positioned correctly over connection beads
  2. Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
  3. Ensure no tools or parts are left in the engine bay
  4. Reconnect battery negative terminal if it was disconnected

  • Allow the engine to reach operating temperature and check for any vacuum leaks around connections
