Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for system capacitor discharge
- Ensure sunroof is in the closed position before beginning work
Procedure
- 1Remove overhead console lens coverUsing a trim removal tool, carefully pry the front edge of the overhead console lens cover near the map lights. The cover is held by spring clips. Work from front to back, releasing each clip gently to avoid breaking the tabs.
- 2Disconnect map light connectorsLocate the electrical connectors for the map lights on the back of the lens cover. Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight out to disconnect. Set the lens cover aside in a safe location.
- 3Remove overhead console mounting screwsLocate the two Phillips head screws securing the overhead console to the headliner. These are typically positioned on either side of the console. Remove both screws and retain them for reinstallation.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 4Lower overhead console assemblyCarefully pull the overhead console downward from the headliner. The rear edge may have additional clips. Tilt the front edge down first, then work the rear free. Do not pull forcefully as wiring harnesses are still connected.
- 5Disconnect sunroof switch connectorLocate the sunroof switch electrical connector on the back of the console. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight out from the switch. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.
- 6Remove sunroof switch from consoleThe sunroof switch is held in the console by two small tabs on each side. Using a small flathead screwdriver or trim tool, press the tabs inward from the back side while pushing the switch out from the front. Remove the old switch from the console housing.
- 7Install new sunroof switchPosition the new sunroof switch in the console opening from the front side. Ensure the switch is oriented correctly with the tilt function facing forward. Press firmly until the side tabs click into place. Verify the switch is seated flush with the console surface.
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorPlug the sunroof switch electrical connector into the back of the new switch. Press firmly until you hear and feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is secure.
- 9Reinstall overhead console assemblyPosition the overhead console back into the headliner opening. Ensure the rear clips engage first, then press the front portion upward. Align the screw holes carefully before installing the mounting screws.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect map lights and install lens coverReconnect the map light electrical connectors to the lens cover, ensuring each connector locks securely. Align the lens cover with the console and press firmly along all edges until all spring clips engage with an audible click.
Reassembly
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification
- Ensure all trim panels are properly seated and secured before testing
Verification
- Turn the ignition to ON position without starting the engine
- Test sunroof tilt function by pressing the rear of the switch - sunroof should tilt up and down
- Test sunroof slide function by pressing and holding the switch forward and backward - sunroof should open and close fully
- Verify the sunroof auto-open and auto-close functions work by pressing and releasing quickly
- Check that the sunroof stops at the proper closed position with no gaps
- Verify map lights function correctly and no warning lights appear on the dashboard
