This procedure replaces the climate control module (HVAC control head) located in the center dashboard, which controls temperature, fan speed, and air distribution settings.
Warnings
⚠Disconnecting the battery will erase radio presets and require window auto-up/down recalibration.
⚠Do not force trim panels or clips as they break easily. Use proper panel removal tools.
ℹ️Some models have integrated display screens with the climate module. Verify correct replacement part before beginning.

Parts
- Climate control module assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Dashboard trim clips (assorted) × 5 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key/fob from vehicle
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for airbag system to discharge
- Set steering wheel to straight-ahead position
- Ensure interior temperature is comfortable for working (not extremely hot or cold)
Procedure
- 1Remove lower center console trimUse panel removal tool to carefully pry out the lower center console trim panel below the climate controls. Start from the bottom edge and work upward. Release the retention clips by pulling gently outward. Disconnect any electrical connectors for USB ports or power outlets if equipped.
- 2Remove center stack side trim panelsPry out the narrow vertical trim panels on both left and right sides of the center stack. These panels run alongside the climate control area. Each panel is held by 2-3 clips. Store panels safely to avoid scratching.
- 3Remove climate control bezelCarefully pry out the trim bezel surrounding the climate control module and radio. Start at the bottom corners and work around the perimeter. Release all clips evenly to avoid breaking tabs. On models with integrated displays, work carefully around the screen edge.
- 4Remove mounting screwsLocate and remove the four Phillips or Torx T20 screws securing the climate control module to the dashboard frame. Two screws are typically at the top and two at the bottom of the module. Keep screws organized for reinstallation.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 5Pull module forwardGently pull the climate control module forward from the dashboard opening approximately 3-4 inches. Do not pull forcefully as electrical connectors are still attached. Use a flashlight to illuminate the rear of the module.
- 6Disconnect electrical connectorsLocate the main electrical connector(s) on the back of the climate control module. Press the locking tab(s) and carefully disconnect each connector. Most modules have 1-2 large multi-pin connectors. Note connector orientations for reassembly.⚠Do not pull on wires. Always grip the connector body when disconnecting.
- 7Remove old climate control moduleOnce all connectors are detached, fully remove the climate control module from the dashboard. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or loose clips that may have fallen during removal.
- 8Prepare new moduleRemove new climate control module from packaging. Verify all buttons, knobs, and controls move freely. Compare new module with old unit to confirm correct replacement part, checking connector types and mounting hole alignment.
- 9Connect electrical connectorsGuide the new module partially into the dashboard opening. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the back of the new module, ensuring each locks securely with an audible click. Verify connector pins are not bent or damaged.
- 10Install and secure modulePush the climate control module fully into the dashboard opening, ensuring it sits flush with the surrounding trim. Install the four mounting screws and tighten to specification using torque wrench. Verify module does not rattle or move when touched.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 11Reinstall trim panelsReinstall the climate control bezel, ensuring all clips engage properly around the entire perimeter. Reinstall the left and right side trim panels. Finally, reinstall the lower center console trim panel and reconnect any electrical connectors for USB/power outlets.
- 12Reconnect battery and initializeReconnect the negative battery terminal. Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine. Observe climate control module display illuminates. Allow vehicle computer systems to initialize for approximately 30 seconds.
Reassembly
- Verify all trim panels are fully seated with no gaps or misalignment
- Check that all dashboard buttons and controls operate smoothly without binding
- Inspect trim panel edges for any protruding clips or damage
- Recalibrate window auto-up/down function by fully lowering each window, then fully raising and holding switch for 2 seconds
Verification
- Start engine and verify climate control display shows all segments clearly
- Test all temperature settings from coldest to hottest
- Verify fan speed adjusts through all speeds (typically 1-8)
- Test all air distribution modes (face, feet, defrost, mixed)
- Confirm AUTO mode functions correctly if equipped
- Verify rear climate controls operate independently if equipped with dual-zone
- Check that A/C compressor engages when A/C button is pressed (listen for engagement click)
- Test recirculation mode button operation
- Scan for diagnostic trouble codes to ensure no communication errors with new module
