Preparation

1. Warm engine to operating temperature (drive vehicle 5-10 minutes), then allow to cool for 10-15 minutes before beginning work
2. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
3. Gather all required fluids, filters, and tools before beginning
4. Raise vehicle using floor jack at designated lift points and support securely on jack stands
5. Remove engine undertray and underbody panels using Torx fasteners (retain clips for reinstallation)

Procedure

1. 1

   Drain engine oil
   Locate the oil drain plug on the oil pan beneath the engine. Position drain pan beneath plug. Remove drain plug using appropriate socket and allow oil to drain completely for at least 10 minutes. Inspect drain plug threads and washer condition. Replace drain plug washer with new OEM washer and reinstall drain plug hand-tight, then torque to specification per service manual (typically 25-30 ft-lb for this engine family, but verify with dealer or service manual).

   Replace oil filter
   Locate oil filter canister on the driver side of engine block. Position drain pan beneath filter housing as residual oil will drain during removal. Use oil filter wrench to loosen and remove oil filter cartridge. Clean filter housing sealing surface thoroughly. Lubricate new filter O-ring with clean engine oil. Install new oil filter and hand-tighten securely, then turn an additional 3/4 turn per Maserati specification.

   Refill engine oil
   Lower vehicle if needed for access to oil filler cap. Remove oil filler cap on valve cover. Using funnel, add 5.0 quarts of Selenia Racing 10W-60 oil initially. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle. Add remaining 0.5 quarts gradually while checking dipstick. Final level should be between MIN and MAX marks on dipstick. Reinstall oil filler cap securely.

   Replace engine air filter
   Open hood and locate air filter housing on passenger side of engine bay. Release housing clips (typically 4-6 clips depending on configuration). Lift housing cover and remove old air filter element. Inspect housing for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter ensuring proper seating and directional arrow alignment if marked. Secure housing cover with all clips fully engaged.

   Replace cabin air filter
   Open glove box and remove contents. Locate cabin air filter access panel behind glove box (may require removing glove box stops or entire glove box assembly). Remove filter access door by pressing release tabs. Slide out old cabin air filter noting installation direction. Install new cabin air filter with airflow direction arrow pointing toward fan (typically marked on filter frame). Reinstall access panel and glove box components.

   Inspect and top off coolant
   With engine cool, locate coolant expansion tank on driver side of engine bay. Check coolant level against MIN/MAX marks on translucent tank. Coolant should be at MAX line when cold. If low, add Maserati OAT coolant mixture (50/50 pre-mixed or distilled water mixed with concentrated coolant). Inspect all visible coolant hoses, turbocharger coolant lines, and connections for leaks, cracks, or deterioration. Check radiator and intercooler fins for damage.

   Inspect and service brake fluid
   Locate brake fluid reservoir on master cylinder (driver side of engine bay near firewall). Check fluid level against MIN/MAX marks. Test brake fluid condition using test strips or electronic tester - fluid should be clear to light amber. If contaminated or moisture content exceeds 3%, recommend brake fluid flush service. Top off with DOT 4 Racing brake fluid if level is low. Inspect for leaks around master cylinder and brake lines.

   Inspect belts and drive system
   With engine off, visually inspect serpentine belt for cracks, glazing, fraying, or missing ribs. Check belt tensioner for proper operation and bearing noise (smooth rotation without play). Inspect all accessible pulleys for alignment and bearing condition. On this twin-turbo engine, verify turbocharger wastegate actuator linkage moves freely and is not binding.

   Inspect suspension and steering components
   With vehicle raised, inspect front and rear suspension components including control arms, ball joints, tie rod ends, and sway bar links for wear, damage, or torn boots. Check steering rack boots for tears or leaks (this vehicle has electric power steering with no fluid). Inspect shock absorbers and springs for leaks or damage. Check all rubber bushings for deterioration or cracking.

    Inspect brakes and tires
    Inspect brake pad thickness through wheel spokes or by removing wheels. Front pads should have minimum 4mm thickness, rear minimum 3mm. Inspect brake rotors for scoring, cracks, or excessive wear. Check brake caliper operation and slide pins. Measure tire tread depth at multiple points - should be minimum 4/32 inch. Check for uneven wear patterns. Inspect tire sidewalls for damage, bulges, or cracks.

    Inspect differential and drivetrain
    Inspect rear differential housing for leaks around pinion seal, axle seals, and cover gasket. Check differential fluid level through fill plug if accessible. Inspect driveshaft universal joints and center support bearing for play or damage. Check CV axle boots at rear wheels for tears or grease leakage. Verify all fasteners are secure.

    Check and adjust tire pressures
    Using accurate tire pressure gauge, check all four tires plus spare. Refer to door jamb sticker for correct pressure specification (typically 35-38 PSI front and rear for standard loads on Levante). Adjust pressures as needed to specification. Reset TPMS if required through vehicle menu system.

    Top off washer fluid and perform final checks
    Locate windshield washer fluid reservoir (typically passenger side of engine bay). Fill with 3.5 quarts of windshield washer fluid to MAX line. Test washer spray pattern and wiper operation. Verify all caps and covers are reinstalled securely. Check that all tools and materials are removed from engine bay and under vehicle.
14. 14

    Reinstall underbody panels and start engine
    Reinstall all underbody panels and engine undertray using original fasteners and new clips as needed. Ensure all panels are secure and properly aligned. Lower vehicle from jack stands. Start engine and verify oil pressure light extinguishes immediately. Allow engine to idle for 2-3 minutes while monitoring for leaks under vehicle, particularly around oil drain plug and filter.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all underbody panels and fasteners are properly secured
2. Verify oil filler cap, coolant cap, and brake fluid reservoir cap are tightened
3. Confirm no tools or materials remain in engine bay or under vehicle
4. Reset service interval indicator through vehicle menu system or using diagnostic tool per Maserati procedure

Verification

• Start engine and verify oil pressure warning light extinguishes within 2 seconds
• Allow engine to reach operating temperature and verify no leaks from oil filter, drain plug, or other serviced components
• Check oil level on dipstick with engine off after 5-minute run - should be between MIN and MAX marks
• Verify all warning lights function properly on startup and extinguish as expected
• Test drive vehicle for 5-10 minutes, verifying normal operation, no unusual noises, and proper fluid levels after drive
• Re-check oil level after test drive and top off if necessary (0.1-0.2 quart may be needed after filter fills)
• Document service completion with date, mileage, and all fluids/parts replaced for vehicle maintenance records
