This procedure covers removal and replacement of the front door lock actuator on a 2017 Maserati Levante, including door panel removal, electrical disconnection, and recalibration of the locking system.

Warnings

Disconnecting battery will reset vehicle settings including radio presets, clock, and seat memory. Record settings before starting.
Maserati door modules require programming after replacement. Ensure diagnostic tool is available before beginning repair.
ℹ️Door panel clips are fragile and may break during removal. Have replacement clips available.

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 5 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
  3. Open the door to be serviced and lower the window completely
  4. Protect door sill and adjacent panels with masking tape to prevent scratches
  5. Have diagnostic scanner ready for post-installation programming

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove door panel lower fasteners
Remove the T25 Torx screw from the bottom corner of the door pull handle. Remove the T20 Torx screw behind the door release handle trim. Carefully pry out the small trim cover at the bottom of the door panel near the speaker grille to access the hidden T25 Torx screw, then remove it.
  2. 2
Disconnect door handle and switch assembly
Carefully pry the interior door handle trim bezel forward using a trim removal tool. Disconnect the electrical connector for the door handle lighting by pressing the release tab. Remove the two T20 Torx screws securing the door handle assembly and carefully pull it away from the door panel, keeping the cable attached.
  3. 3
    Remove door panel
Starting at the bottom rear corner, use a panel removal tool to release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Work your way around carefully, pulling outward and upward to avoid breaking clips. Once all clips are released, lift the entire panel upward approximately 2 inches to disengage from the window sill channel, then pull away from door.
  4. 4
    Disconnect door panel electrical connectors
With the door panel pulled away but still attached, disconnect all electrical connectors: window switch module (large multi-pin connector), power mirror switch, door lock switch, and puddle lamp connector. Press release tabs firmly while pulling connectors straight out. Set door panel aside in a protected area.
  5. 5
    Remove vapor barrier
Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet, starting from one corner. The barrier is adhered with butyl tape. Work slowly to avoid tearing the sheet, as it will be reused. Fold the barrier away to expose the door latch mechanism and actuator assembly. If barrier is damaged, replacement adhesive tape will be needed.
  6. 6
Disconnect actuator electrical connector and control cables
Locate the door lock actuator mounted to the door latch assembly near the door edge. Disconnect the actuator electrical connector by sliding the red safety lock tab away, then pressing the release tab. Disconnect the rod linkage from the actuator by rotating the plastic clip 90 degrees and sliding it off the ball joint. Note the orientation for reinstallation.
The plastic rod linkage clips are brittle and can break if forced. Work gently and replace if cracked.
  7. 7
Remove door lock actuator mounting bolts
Remove the three T30 Torx bolts securing the actuator assembly to the door latch mechanism. Support the actuator as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from falling into the door cavity. Carefully maneuver the actuator out through the service opening in the door frame.

    Install new door lock actuator
Position the new actuator assembly to the door latch mechanism, aligning the mounting holes and ensuring the actuator rod is properly oriented. Install the three T30 Torx bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment, then torque to specification in a cross pattern.

  9. 9
Reconnect actuator linkage and electrical connector
Reconnect the rod linkage to the actuator by positioning the ball joint into the socket and rotating the plastic clip back 90 degrees to lock. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging. Connect the electrical connector, ensuring it clicks fully into place and the red safety lock slides back into locked position.
  10. 10
    Reinstall vapor barrier
Press the vapor barrier back into place, ensuring all edges are firmly adhered. If adhesive has lost tackiness, apply new vapor barrier adhesive tape around the perimeter. Ensure complete seal with no gaps, particularly around the actuator area, to prevent water intrusion and wind noise.
  11. 11
    Reconnect battery and initialize actuator
Reconnect the negative battery terminal. Before reinstalling door panel, turn ignition to ON position (engine off) and use the diagnostic scanner to access the Body Control Module. Run the door lock actuator initialization procedure to calibrate the new unit. Test lock/unlock function from both interior switch and key fob to verify operation before proceeding.
Do not skip the actuator initialization procedure. Failure to program the new actuator may result in improper locking operation or fault codes.

  12. 12
    Reinstall door panel
Reconnect all electrical connectors to the door panel (window switch, mirror switch, lock switch, puddle lamp). Position the door panel at the window sill, engage the top channel first by hooking it over the sill, then press firmly around the perimeter to engage all retaining clips. Reinstall the door handle assembly and all Torx screws removed earlier.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all door panel clips are fully seated by pressing around the perimeter and listening for clicks
  2. Test window operation through full up and down travel to ensure no interference with door panel
  3. Reinstall any trim pieces or covers removed during disassembly
  4. Reset clock, radio presets, and seat memory positions as needed

Verification

  • Test door lock and unlock from interior switch - should operate smoothly without binding or noise
  • Test door lock and unlock from key fob at 10-15 feet distance - should respond immediately
  • Test central locking by locking/unlocking driver door - all doors should operate in sync
  • Verify no warning lights or fault codes are present in instrument cluster
  • Open and close door several times to verify proper latch engagement and panel fitment
  • Check for any unusual noises, rattles, or gaps in door panel installation
