Remove and replace the fog light assembly on a 2017 Maserati Levante, including access through the front bumper area and proper electrical connection.

Warnings

Allow engine and exhaust components to cool completely before working near the front bumper area to avoid burns.
ℹ️Fog light assemblies are fragile. Handle with care and avoid placing face-down on hard surfaces.

Parts

  • Fog light assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Push pin retainers (if damaged) × 5 — OEM bumper clips

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake.
  2. Turn off ignition and remove key fob from vehicle interior.
  3. Allow engine to cool if recently driven.
  4. Place protective mat or cloth on ground if working from below.
  5. Ensure wheels are straight for better access to fog light area.

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the wheel well liner
Turn the steering wheel fully to the opposite side of the fog light being replaced (turn right for left fog light, left for right fog light). From underneath the front of the vehicle, locate the plastic wheel well liner in front of the tire. Identify the push pin retainers securing the forward section of the liner to the bumper.
  2. 2
    Remove wheel well liner fasteners
Using a trim removal tool, carefully remove 3-4 push pin retainers along the forward edge of the wheel well liner. Pull the liner away from the bumper to create access to the rear of the fog light assembly. You may need to remove additional fasteners if access is restricted. Fold the liner back gently without forcing to avoid cracking.
  3. 3
    Locate the fog light assembly
From behind the wheel well liner opening, locate the fog light assembly mounted in the front bumper. Identify the electrical connector attached to the rear of the fog light housing and the mounting fasteners securing the assembly to the bumper.
  4. 4
    Disconnect the electrical connector
Press the release tab on the fog light electrical connector and carefully pull the connector straight off the fog light assembly. Do not pull on the wiring harness itself. If the connector is tight, gently wiggle it while applying even pressure to the release tab.
  5. 5
    Remove fog light mounting fasteners
Remove the fog light assembly mounting screws or bolts (typically 2-3 per assembly) using the appropriate socket or Torx driver. Support the fog light assembly with one hand while removing the final fastener to prevent it from falling.

  6. 6
    Extract the fog light assembly
Carefully pull the fog light assembly rearward through the bumper opening. Angle the assembly as needed to clear the mounting brackets and bumper structure. Remove the assembly from the vehicle and place it on a protected surface if it will be reused.
  7. 7
    Inspect mounting area
Inspect the fog light mounting bracket in the bumper for damage, cracks, or missing hardware. Clean the mounting surface and bracket of any dirt, debris, or corrosion. Verify that the new fog light assembly matches the removed unit and includes all necessary seals or gaskets.
  8. 8
    Install new fog light assembly
Insert the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening from behind, aligning the mounting tabs with the bracket holes. Ensure any sealing gasket or O-ring is properly positioned. Hand-thread all mounting fasteners before tightening any of them to ensure proper alignment.
  9. 9
    Tighten fog light mounting fasteners
Using a torque wrench, tighten the fog light mounting fasteners to specification in a cross-pattern if multiple bolts are present. Verify the fog light assembly is seated flush against the bumper and does not move when gently pressed.

  10. 10
    Connect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the fog light assembly connector pins until you hear or feel a positive click indicating it is fully seated. Gently tug on the connector body (not wires) to verify it is securely locked in place.
  11. 11
    Reinstall wheel well liner
Position the wheel well liner back into its original location, ensuring all edges align properly with the bumper and fender. Install all push pin retainers by pressing them firmly until they click into place. Replace any damaged retainers with new ones.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all wheel well liner fasteners are fully seated and secure.
  2. Return steering wheel to center position.
  3. Ensure no tools or parts are left in the wheel well or engine compartment.

Verification

  • Turn the ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run) and activate the fog lights using the switch.
  • Verify the new fog light illuminates properly and is the correct brightness.
  • Exit the vehicle and visually inspect that the fog light is aligned correctly within the bumper opening.
  • Check that the fog light turns off when the switch is deactivated.
  • Inspect the wheel well liner to ensure it is properly secured with no loose sections or gaps.
