Replace the tail light bulb assembly on a 2017 Maserati Levante by accessing the light housing from inside the rear cargo area.
Warnings
⚠Allow tail light assembly to cool completely if vehicle was recently operated to avoid burns from hot bulb housing
ℹ️Do not touch halogen bulb glass with bare fingers as skin oils will cause premature failure - use cotton gloves or clean cloth
ℹ️Some Levante models use LED modules instead of replaceable bulbs - verify bulb type before ordering parts

Parts
- Tail light bulb (P21W or LED module depending on trim) × 1 — Use OEM specification - varies by trim level
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off all lights and remove key from ignition
- Open rear liftgate to access cargo area
- Identify which tail light requires bulb replacement (brake, turn signal, reverse, or tail light position)
Procedure
- 1Access rear cargo trim panelLocate the interior cargo area side trim panel on the side where the bulb needs replacement. Identify the fastener access points along the panel edge near the tail light assembly.
- 2Remove cargo trim panel fastenersUsing the flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool, carefully pry out the plastic push-pin fasteners securing the rear cargo trim panel. Start from the bottom and work upward. Store fasteners in a safe location for reinstallation.⚠Use gentle pressure when removing trim fasteners to avoid breaking the plastic clips or cracking the trim panel
- 3Pull back cargo trim panelOnce fasteners are removed, carefully pull the trim panel away from the body to expose the rear of the tail light assembly. You may need to flex the panel slightly to create access space.
- 4Locate bulb socket assemblyBehind the tail light housing, identify the specific bulb socket that needs replacement. The Levante typically has multiple sockets: brake/tail light (top), turn signal (middle), and reverse light (bottom). Use a flashlight to clearly identify the correct socket.
- 5Remove bulb socketGrasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) until it releases from the tail light housing. Pull the socket straight out with the bulb still installed.
- 6Remove failed bulbDepending on bulb type, either push the bulb in slightly and rotate counterclockwise to remove (bayonet style), or pull straight out (wedge style). Inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage.
- 7Install new bulbUsing cotton gloves or a clean cloth, handle the new bulb only by the base. Insert the new bulb into the socket using the reverse of removal method - push and rotate clockwise for bayonet type, or push straight in for wedge type until fully seated.
- 8Test bulb operationBefore reinstalling the socket, have an assistant activate the light function (brake pedal, turn signal, or reverse) to verify the new bulb illuminates properly. If bulb does not light, check socket connection and bulb installation.
- 9Reinstall bulb socketAlign the socket tabs with the slots in the tail light housing and insert the socket. Rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into place with an audible click.
- 10Reinstall cargo trim panelPosition the cargo trim panel back into place, ensuring all alignment pins and edges are properly seated. Press firmly on each fastener location and reinstall the push-pin fasteners by pressing them in until they click and are flush with the panel surface.
Reassembly
- Verify all trim panel fasteners are fully seated and secure
- Close rear liftgate and ensure trim panel does not rattle or have any gaps
- Perform final light function test with vehicle exterior lights on to confirm proper operation
Verification
- Activate all lighting functions (brake lights, turn signals, reverse lights, tail lights) and visually inspect from outside the vehicle to confirm the replaced bulb illuminates properly
- Check that tail light lens is properly sealed and no moisture is present inside the housing
- Verify cargo area trim panel is secure with no rattles or loose fasteners
