Procedure to relearn and synchronize the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) sensors with the vehicle's computer after tire rotation, sensor replacement, or pressure adjustment.
Warnings
⚠Ensure all tires are at the correct cold pressure before beginning the relearn procedure or the system may store incorrect baseline values
ℹ️The vehicle must be stationary during the initialization procedure. Do not start the relearn while the vehicle is in motion
Tools required
TPMS scan tool or Maserati diagnostic scannerEssential
Tire pressure gaugeEssential
Tire inflator/air compressor
Torque wrench
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
- Verify all four tires are inflated to the correct pressure as listed on the door placard (typically 36 PSI front, 39 PSI rear for standard load)
- Ensure ignition is OFF before beginning
- Confirm all TPMS sensors are functioning and transmitting (no TPMS warning light currently illuminated due to dead sensors)
Procedure
- 1Verify tire pressuresUsing a calibrated tire pressure gauge, check and adjust all four tire pressures to match the specifications on the driver's door jamb placard. Tire pressures must be checked when tires are cold (vehicle has not been driven for at least 3 hours). Adjust as necessary using an air compressor.
- 2Connect diagnostic toolConnect a Maserati-compatible diagnostic scanner or TPMS tool to the OBD-II port located under the driver's side dashboard, below and to the left of the steering column. Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine.
- 3Access TPMS function menuNavigate through the diagnostic tool menu to access the TPMS functions. On Maserati factory tools, select: Vehicle Diagnostics > Body Control > TPMS > Sensor Learning or Tire Pressure Reset. The exact menu path may vary depending on the scan tool being used.
- 4Initiate sensor ID learningSelect the 'Learn Sensor IDs' or 'TPMS Relearn' function from the diagnostic tool menu. The tool will prompt you to confirm the tire positions. Follow the on-screen instructions which will typically request you to trigger each sensor in a specific order (usually left front, right front, right rear, left rear).
- 5Trigger each TPMS sensorUsing the TPMS scan tool, activate each sensor by placing the tool's antenna near the tire valve stem at the specified wheel position. Hold the tool in place until it confirms the sensor ID has been received (typically indicated by a beep or on-screen confirmation). Repeat for all four wheels in the order specified by the diagnostic tool.
- 6Complete the relearn procedureOnce all four sensor IDs have been captured, confirm the data entry on the diagnostic tool. The tool will write the new sensor positions to the vehicle's body control module. Wait for the confirmation message that the relearn procedure is complete before proceeding.
- 7Alternative method using vehicle controlsIf a TPMS scan tool is unavailable, the Levante supports a drive-cycle relearn: From the touchscreen, navigate to Vehicle Settings > Service > Tire Pressure Monitoring > Reset Tire Positions. Confirm the reset, then drive the vehicle at speeds above 15 mph for 10-15 minutes to allow the system to auto-learn the sensor positions.
- 8Clear fault codesUsing the diagnostic tool, check for and clear any TPMS-related fault codes stored in the body control module. This ensures the warning light will extinguish if the relearn was successful.
- 9Power cycle the vehicleTurn the ignition OFF, disconnect the diagnostic tool from the OBD-II port, and wait 30 seconds. Turn the ignition back to the ON position and verify that the TPMS warning light illuminates briefly during the bulb check, then extinguishes after 2-3 seconds.
Reassembly
- No disassembly is required for this procedure
- If wheels were removed for tire rotation or service, reinstall and torque lug nuts to specification in a star pattern
Verification
- Start the engine and verify the TPMS warning light is not illuminated on the instrument cluster
- Navigate to the tire pressure display on the touchscreen (Vehicle > Tire Pressure) and confirm all four tire pressures are displayed correctly
- If available, use the diagnostic scanner to verify all four sensor IDs are stored correctly in the body control module
- Test drive the vehicle for 5-10 minutes above 15 mph and verify the TPMS light does not illuminate
- After the test drive, recheck the tire pressure display to ensure real-time pressure updates are being received from all sensors
