Fluids

  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition off and remove key
  3. Allow engine to cool if recently driven
  4. Gather all tools and replacement parts

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove driver's side front wheel
Loosen the wheel lug nuts with vehicle on ground, then raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and support securely with jack stands. Remove the driver's side front wheel completely to access the wheel well liner.
  2. 2
    Remove wheel arch liner fasteners
Locate and remove the Torx T25 screws and plastic push clips securing the front portion of the wheel arch liner. You only need to remove enough fasteners to fold back the liner and access the washer reservoir behind it. Typically 5-7 fasteners need removal.
  3. 3
    Position drain pan
Place a drain pan or large container beneath the washer reservoir area. The reservoir holds approximately 3.5 quarts of fluid which will drain when the pump is removed.
  4. 4
    Disconnect washer pump electrical connector
Locate the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the release tab and disconnect the electrical connector from the pump. Note the connector orientation for reinstallation.
  5. 5
    Disconnect washer hose
Carefully disconnect the washer fluid hose from the pump outlet. The hose is typically press-fit onto a barbed fitting. Pull firmly while twisting gently to remove. Some fluid will spill.
  6. 6
    Remove washer pump from reservoir
The pump is secured to the reservoir by a twist-lock or grommet mount. Rotate the pump counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull downward to remove from the reservoir. Fluid will drain rapidly once pump is removed. Remove the rubber grommet/seal from the pump or reservoir opening.
  7. 7
    Install new washer pump
Install the rubber grommet/seal onto the new pump if not pre-installed. Insert the new pump into the reservoir opening and rotate clockwise 1/4 turn to lock in place. Ensure the pump is fully seated and secure before proceeding.
  8. 8
    Reconnect hose and electrical connector
Reconnect the washer fluid hose to the pump outlet, pushing firmly until fully seated on the barbed fitting. Reconnect the electrical connector to the pump, ensuring it clicks into place securely.
  9. 9
    Refill washer fluid reservoir
Open the hood and locate the washer fluid filler cap. Fill the reservoir with approximately 3.5 quarts of windshield washer fluid. Fill to the MAX line on the reservoir.
  10. 10
    Test washer pump operation
Turn the ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run). Activate the windshield washer system and verify the pump operates and fluid sprays correctly onto the windshield. Check for leaks around the pump mounting area and hose connection.
  11. 11
    Reinstall wheel arch liner
Fold the wheel arch liner back into position and reinstall all Torx T25 screws and push clips that were removed. Ensure liner is properly seated and secured.
    Torque spec
    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  12. 12
    Reinstall wheel
Reinstall the driver's side front wheel. Hand-tighten lug nuts in a star pattern, then lower vehicle to ground. Torque lug nuts to manufacturer specification in a star pattern.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all wheel arch liner fasteners are properly secured to prevent rattling or liner interference with tire
  2. Verify washer fluid level is at MAX line after testing
  3. Check for any fluid leaks around pump installation after 24 hours of use

Verification

  • Activate windshield washer system and confirm strong, consistent spray pattern on windshield
  • Verify no leaks are present at pump mounting location or hose connection
  • Check that washer fluid level remains stable after multiple wash cycles
  • Confirm no unusual pump noise or vibration during operation
  • Verify wheel arch liner is secure and not contacting tire during steering movement
