This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the wiper switch (turn signal stalk assembly) on a 2017 Maserati Levante, requiring partial steering column cover removal and electrical connector access.

Warnings

Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 15 minutes before working near airbag components to allow capacitor discharge
Do not turn ignition on with steering column connectors disconnected or fault codes will be stored
ℹ️The wiper switch is integrated with the turn signal stalk and cannot be serviced separately

Parts

  • Wiper/Turn Signal Switch Assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Steering column cover clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn steering wheel to straight-ahead position
  3. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key fob from vehicle interior
  4. Open hood and disconnect negative battery terminal
  5. Wait minimum 15 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge
  6. Adjust steering column to lowest and most forward position for access

Procedure

  1. 1
    Disconnect battery negative terminal
Using a 10mm socket, loosen the negative battery terminal bolt. Remove the terminal from the battery post and secure it away from the battery to prevent accidental reconnection during the procedure.

  2. 2
    Remove lower steering column cover
Locate the three Torx screws securing the lower steering column cover (two on underside, one near ignition). Remove the T20 screws and carefully pull the lower cover down and away from the column. Disconnect the hood release cable if equipped on this side by releasing the clip.
    Torque spec
    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  3. 3
    Remove upper steering column cover
Remove the two T20 Torx screws at the top of the upper steering column cover. Gently lift the rear of the cover and slide it rearward to disengage the front tabs from the dashboard. Set the cover aside, taking care not to scratch the surface.

  4. 4
    Access wiper switch mounting area
With both covers removed, you will see the multifunction switch assembly on the left side of the steering column. Identify the wiper switch module and its two mounting screws on the column bracket. Note the routing of the wire harness before proceeding.
  5. 5
    Disconnect wiper switch electrical connector
Locate the main electrical connector on the back of the wiper switch assembly. Press the locking tab on the connector and carefully pull it straight back to disconnect. If there is a secondary connector for rain sensor functionality, disconnect it as well using the same method.
  6. 6
    Remove wiper switch mounting screws
Using a T25 Torx driver, remove the two screws securing the wiper switch assembly to the steering column bracket. Support the switch as you remove the second screw to prevent it from falling.

  7. 7
    Remove wiper switch assembly
Carefully slide the wiper switch assembly away from the steering column, guiding the wiring harness through any retaining clips. Remove the assembly from the vehicle and inspect the mounting bracket and connector for any damage or corrosion.
  8. 8
    Install new wiper switch assembly
Route the wiring harness of the new wiper switch through the appropriate clips on the steering column bracket. Align the switch mounting holes with the bracket and slide it into position, ensuring the stalk is in the correct orientation for operation.
  9. 9
    Install wiper switch mounting screws
Insert the two T25 mounting screws and tighten them to specification using a torque wrench. Ensure the switch assembly sits flush against the bracket and operates smoothly through all positions before final tightening.

  10. 10
    Reconnect electrical connectors
Connect the main wiper switch electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place with the locking tab fully engaged. If applicable, reconnect the rain sensor connector. Gently tug on each connector to verify secure connection.
  11. 11
    Reinstall upper steering column cover
Position the upper steering column cover by engaging the front tabs into the dashboard opening, then lower the rear portion over the column. Install the two T20 screws at the top of the cover and torque to specification.

  12. 12
    Reinstall lower steering column cover
Reconnect the hood release cable to its mounting point if previously disconnected. Position the lower cover under the column and snap it into place. Install the three T20 screws (two underneath, one near ignition) and torque to specification.

  13. 13
    Reconnect battery and initialize system
Reconnect the negative battery terminal and torque the terminal bolt to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the terminal. After connection, the vehicle may require a brief initialization period for the body control module.

    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all steering column covers are properly seated with no gaps or misalignment
  2. Verify all Torx screws are installed and torqued correctly to prevent rattles
  3. Check that wiper stalk returns to center position smoothly after operation
  4. Confirm all electrical connectors are fully seated with locking tabs engaged

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position (engine off) and test all wiper switch functions: intermittent, low, high, and wash
  • Verify turn signal operation in both left and right directions with proper indicator flash rate
  • Test high beam flash and constant high beam functions if integrated with the same stalk
  • Check for proper wiper delay function if equipped with variable intermittent feature
  • Scan for diagnostic trouble codes related to body control or wiper system using appropriate scan tool
  • Verify no airbag warning lights remain illuminated on instrument cluster
  • Confirm steering column covers are secure with no rattles during steering input
