Preparation
- Allow engine and exhaust system to cool completely (minimum 1 hour after operation)
- Park vehicle on level surface, apply parking brake, and place wheel chocks at rear wheels
- Raise vehicle on lift or secure with jack stands at manufacturer-specified lift points
- Locate upstream O2 sensors: Bank 1 (right side) and Bank 2 (left side) sensors are positioned in the exhaust downpipes before the catalytic converters
- Spray penetrating oil on sensor threads if vehicle has high mileage or sensor has not been replaced previously, allow 15 minutes to penetrate
Procedure
