Speaker - Dash

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the dashboard-mounted tweeter speaker in a 2007-2013 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG.

• Dashboard tweeter speaker × 1 — A2218200702 or A2218201002 (verify left/right)
• Speaker grille (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn ignition off
2. Allow dashboard to cool if vehicle was in direct sunlight to prevent burns and make trim removal easier
3. Identify which speaker requires replacement (left or right dashboard corner)
4. Gather all tools and parts before beginning

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove speaker grille cover
   Using a plastic trim tool, carefully pry up the triangular speaker grille cover located at the corner of the dashboard near the A-pillar. Start from the rear edge and work toward the windshield. The grille is held by spring clips and does not use screws. Lift gently to avoid breaking the clips.

   Access speaker mounting screws
   With the grille removed, you will see the tweeter speaker assembly. Locate the two T20 Torx screws securing the speaker to the dashboard mounting bracket. These screws are typically located at opposite corners of the speaker housing.

   Remove speaker mounting screws
   Using the T20 Torx driver, remove both screws securing the speaker. Keep these screws in a safe place for reinstallation. The speaker will now be loose but still connected to the wiring harness.

   Disconnect speaker wiring
   Carefully lift the speaker assembly up and away from the dashboard mounting location. Locate the electrical connector on the back of the speaker. Press the locking tab on the connector and gently pull the connector away from the speaker terminals. If access is tight, use needle-nose pliers to reach the connector lock.

   Remove old speaker
   Once disconnected, remove the old speaker from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting bracket and grille for any damage or debris. Clean the mounting area if necessary to ensure proper fit of the new speaker.

   Install new speaker
   Connect the wiring harness to the new speaker by pressing the connector firmly onto the speaker terminals until you hear or feel it click into place. Ensure the connector is fully seated to prevent intermittent connection.

   Test speaker operation
   Before securing the speaker, turn the ignition to position 2 (do not start engine) and test the speaker by adjusting the audio system's balance and fade controls to isolate the replaced speaker. Verify sound output is clear and functional.

   Secure speaker assembly
   Position the speaker into the dashboard mounting bracket, aligning the screw holes. Install both T20 Torx screws and tighten by hand until snug. Do not overtighten as the speaker housing is plastic and can crack. Screws should be firmly seated but not torqued aggressively.

   Reinstall speaker grille
   Align the speaker grille cover with its mounting position on the dashboard. Ensure all clips are properly aligned with their receptacles. Press firmly but evenly around the perimeter of the grille until all clips snap into place. Verify the grille is flush with the surrounding dashboard surface.

Reassembly

1. Verify grille is securely clipped in place and sits flush with dashboard
2. Check that no gaps exist between grille and dashboard trim

Verification

• Turn ignition to position 2 and test audio system with radio or media source
• Adjust balance and fade controls to verify the replaced speaker produces clear sound across full frequency range
• Check for rattles or vibrations at various volume levels
• Verify speaker grille is secure and does not rattle during test
• Confirm no warning messages appear on instrument cluster related to audio system
