Center Console

This procedure covers the removal and installation of the center console assembly in a 2007 Ram 3500 to access floor-mounted components or replace a damaged console.

• Console mounting screws × 1 — Replace if damaged

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Move front seats fully forward to access rear console mounting points
3. Remove any items stored in console storage compartments and cup holders
4. If equipped with automatic transmission, place shifter in lowest gear position (1 or L) to provide clearance
5. Use masking tape to label any electrical connectors if console has power outlets or switches

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove cup holder insert
   Grasp the cup holder insert firmly and pull straight up to remove it from the console. It is held by friction clips. Set aside in a safe location to prevent damage.

   Remove console storage bin
   Open the console storage lid fully. Locate and remove the two Phillips screws at the bottom of the storage bin. Lift the storage bin assembly straight up and out of the console. Disconnect any electrical connectors for power outlets if equipped by pressing the locking tab and pulling straight out.

   Remove front console trim bezel
   Using a trim panel removal tool, carefully pry around the edges of the front console trim bezel surrounding the shifter. Start at the rear edge and work forward. Release the retaining clips by gently pulling outward. Lift the bezel up and over the shifter lever, being careful not to scratch the shifter boot.

   Remove shift lever boot
   If equipped with the G56 manual transmission, remove the shift knob per its retention method (thread off counterclockwise, or release the lock ring/retainer if so equipped) — verify retention type before forcing. Slide the shift boot up and off the lever. For automatic transmission, the boot may be integrated with the bezel removed in the previous step or held by clips at the base - carefully release clips with trim tool if separate.

   Access and remove rear console fasteners
   Move the front seats back to their normal position. Locate the console mounting screws at the rear base of the console near the rear seat area (verify size and quantity against the factory service manual). Remove all rear fasteners completely and store them safely. Remove both screws completely and store them safely.

   Remove front console mounting bolts
   Move front seats fully rearward. Using a socket wrench with extension, locate and remove the mounting bolts at the front of the console base near the transmission tunnel (verify bolt size and quantity against the factory service manual). Remove bolts completely. Remove bolts completely.

   Disconnect electrical connections
   Check for any remaining electrical connections including cigarette lighter/power outlet, accessory switches, or climate control rear vents if equipped. Press the locking tabs and disconnect all connectors. Note the routing of wiring harnesses for reinstallation.

   Remove center console assembly
   With all fasteners and electrical connections removed, carefully lift the entire console assembly up and rearward, clearing the shifter lever. The console may need to be tilted slightly to clear the shifter and floor contours. Use caution not to catch any remaining wiring. Remove console from vehicle.    Inspect mounting points and clips
   With console removed, inspect all mounting points on the floor for damage or stripped threads. Check the console itself for broken mounting tabs or clips. Replace any damaged clips or fasteners. Vacuum the exposed floor area to remove accumulated debris.

Reassembly

1. Reassembly is the reverse of removal with these key points:
2. Ensure all wiring harnesses are routed properly and not pinched between console and floor
3. Align console carefully over shifter and parking brake pedal before lowering into position
4. Start all mounting bolts and screws by hand before final tightening to ensure proper alignment
5. Verify all electrical connections click fully into place and test power outlets for function
6. Ensure cup holder insert and storage bin seat fully and operate smoothly before completing job
7. Test that shifter moves freely through all gear positions without interference from console or boot

Verification

• Verify center console is firmly mounted with no movement or rattles when pushed from all sides
• Check that shifter operates smoothly through all gear positions without binding on console components
• Test all electrical accessories including power outlets, heated seat switches if equipped
• Verify console storage lid opens and closes properly and latches securely
• Confirm cup holders are properly seated and functional
• Check that all trim panels and bezels are flush with no gaps and clips are fully engaged
