Climate Control Module

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the climate control module (HVAC control head) located in the center instrument panel of a 2007 Ram 3500 with 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait minimum 2 minutes
3. Allow interior to cool if vehicle was recently operated with HVAC running
4. Gather all tools and replacement parts within easy reach

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove center bezel upper trim panel
   Using trim removal tools, carefully pry the upper center bezel panel away from the instrument panel starting at the top corners. Work your way around the perimeter, releasing the retaining clips. Once all clips are released, pull the bezel forward and set aside.

   Remove radio trim bezel
   Locate and remove the trim bezel surrounding the radio and climate control module. This bezel is secured by spring clips around the perimeter. Use a trim tool to gently pry outward starting from the bottom corners, then work upward. Pull the bezel straight out once all clips are released.

   Remove climate control mounting screws
   Remove the screws securing the climate control module to the instrument panel support bracket per FSM (verify fastener size and count for this vehicle). Keep screws in a safe location for reinstallation. Keep screws in a safe location for reinstallation.

   Pull climate control module forward
   Carefully pull the climate control module straight out from the instrument panel approximately 4-6 inches. Do not pull too far as electrical connectors and vacuum lines are still attached to the rear of the module. Support the module with one hand while accessing the rear connections.

   Disconnect electrical connectors
   Locate the main electrical connector on the rear of the climate control module. Press the connector locking tab and pull the connector straight back to disconnect. There may be one or two connectors depending on configuration (manual vs automatic temperature control). Ensure all connectors are fully disconnected before proceeding.

   Disconnect vacuum harness
   If equipped with vacuum-actuated mode control, locate the vacuum harness connector on the rear of the module and disconnect it by pressing the locking tabs and pulling straight back. Note that many 2007 Ram HVAC systems use electric actuators rather than vacuum; verify configuration before assuming a vacuum harness is present.

   Remove old climate control module
   With all electrical and vacuum connections disconnected, remove the climate control module completely from the instrument panel. Inspect the mounting bracket area and clean any dust or debris before installing the replacement module.

   Install new climate control module
   Position the new climate control module near the instrument panel opening. Before pushing into place, reconnect the vacuum harness connector first, ensuring it clicks and locks securely. Then reconnect all electrical connectors, verifying each connector is fully seated and locked.

   Secure climate control module
   Carefully push the climate control module into the instrument panel opening, aligning the mounting holes with the support bracket. Install the mounting screws and tighten securely, ensuring the module face is flush with the surrounding panel (verify fastener size and count for this vehicle).

    Reinstall trim bezels
    Reinstall the radio trim bezel by aligning the clips with their receptacles and pressing firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place. Then reinstall the upper center bezel panel using the same method, ensuring all clips are fully engaged and the bezel sits flush.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect negative battery terminal and tighten securely
2. Verify all trim panels are flush and properly secured with no gaps
3. Check that no tools or parts were left in the instrument panel cavity

Verification

• Turn ignition to RUN position without starting engine and verify climate control module illuminates
• Test all blower speed settings from low to high to confirm proper operation
• Test mode selection through all positions (panel, bi-level, floor, defrost, mix) and listen for vacuum actuators operating
• Test temperature control from full cold to full hot, verifying blend door movement
• If equipped with automatic climate control, verify temperature display functions correctly
• Start engine and verify A/C compressor engages when A/C button is pressed (engine at operating temperature)
• Verify rear defrost button activates if so equipped
• Check for proper airflow from all vent positions and confirm no vacuum leaks (hissing sounds)
