Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off ignition and remove key
- Allow fog lights to cool if recently used
- Ensure front wheels are straight for easier access
Procedure
- 1Access fog light areaTurn the steering wheel fully in the opposite direction of the fog light being replaced to improve access. For driver side fog light, turn wheel fully right; for passenger side, turn wheel fully left. This opens up the wheelwell area for better reach.
- 2Remove wheelwell liner fastenersLocate the plastic wheelwell liner in front of the tire. Remove the push-pin fasteners securing the front portion of the wheelwell liner using a flathead screwdriver or trim removal tool. You only need to remove 2-3 fasteners nearest the fog light area to create enough access. Pull the liner back gently to expose the rear of the fog light assembly. Verify bulb type against the specific assembly/trim (commonly 9145/H10 or PSX24W) — if not included with assembly.
- 3Disconnect electrical connectorReach behind the fog light assembly and locate the electrical connector. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the fog light assembly. You may need to rotate the connector slightly while pulling to release it.
- 4Remove fog light mounting fastenersLocate the mounting screws or bolts securing the fog light assembly to the bumper bracket. Fastener type and count vary by trim/assembly; inspect the mounting points to identify the actual fasteners (commonly small bolts or screws) before removal. Remove these fasteners completely and store them in a safe location for reinstallation.
- 5Remove fog light assemblyCarefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out of the bumper opening. You may need to angle it slightly to clear the mounting tabs. Be careful not to scratch the bumper paint during removal. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or corrosion and clean if necessary.
- 6Install new fog light assemblyPosition the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening, ensuring any alignment tabs or grooves are properly seated. Angle the assembly as needed to fit it through the opening, then align the mounting holes with the bracket behind the bumper.
- 7Install mounting fastenersInsert and tighten the mounting screws or bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Once both fasteners are started, tighten them securely using the 10mm socket or Phillips screwdriver. Do not overtighten as this may crack the plastic housing.
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the back of the fog light assembly until you hear or feel it click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked.
- 9Reinstall wheelwell linerPull the wheelwell liner back into position and reinstall all push-pin fasteners that were removed. Ensure each fastener is fully seated and the liner is secure against the fender.
Reassembly
- Ensure all wheelwell liner fasteners are properly installed and secure
- Verify electrical connector is fully engaged with no exposed terminals
- Return steering wheel to center position
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights using dashboard switch
- Visually confirm the new fog light illuminates properly
- Check that fog light is aimed correctly and matches the opposite side
- Walk around vehicle to ensure fog light assembly is flush with bumper and properly aligned
- Test fog lights while driving to verify proper operation
