Fuse Box - Interior

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the interior fuse box (Integrated Power Module) located in the cab of the 2007 Ram 3500 with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.

• Interior fuse box (Integrated Power Module) × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Dash panel clips (if broken) × 1 — Mopar replacement clips

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
3. Disconnect negative battery cable at battery
4. Wait at least 2 minutes for airbag system discharge
5. Open driver's door and ensure adequate lighting in cab
6. Photograph the fuse box cover and fuse layout for reference

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove fuse box cover
   Pull the fuse box cover straight out from the left side of the lower dash panel. The cover is held by friction clips. Set cover aside with any fuses that need to be transferred to new module.

   Remove lower dash panel
   Locate and remove the screws securing the lower dash panel beneath the steering column, verifying the count and driver size (commonly Torx or hex-head) against the factory service manual. Gently pull the panel downward and away to release the retaining clips. Disconnect the hood release cable by sliding it out of its bracket if necessary. Remove panel completely.

   Remove driver's side knee bolster
   Remove the screws securing the knee bolster panel below the steering column, verifying the driver size and screw count against the factory service manual. Carefully pull the panel away, being mindful of any wiring behind it. Set aside.

   Access fuse box mounting fasteners
   With the lower panels removed, locate the interior fuse box mounting bracket. Use a flashlight to identify the mounting bolts. On the 2007 Ram 3500, locate the fuse box mounting fasteners; verify the exact count and size against the factory service manual before removal, as the module may be secured by bolts, nuts, and/or retaining clips.

   Document electrical connections
   Before disconnecting any wiring, take clear photos of each connector position and orientation. Label each connector with tape and marker if available. Note the routing of wire harnesses for reinstallation.

   Disconnect main electrical connectors
   Release the locking tabs on each electrical connector attached to the rear of the fuse box. There are typically 3-4 large multi-pin connectors. Press the release tabs firmly while pulling the connector straight back. Do not twist or force connectors.

   Remove fuse box mounting bolts
   Using the appropriate socket with extension, remove the mounting fasteners securing the fuse box to the dash structure, confirming the count and size against the factory service manual. Support the fuse box with your free hand as you remove the final bolt to prevent it from dropping.

   Remove fuse box from vehicle
   Carefully maneuver the fuse box out from the dash area. It may be necessary to angle it slightly to clear surrounding components. Guide the electrical connectors through their routing channels as you pull the module free.

   Transfer fuses to new module
   If installing a replacement fuse box, transfer all fuses from the old module to the corresponding positions in the new module. Match fuse amperage ratings exactly. Verify each fuse position using the diagram on the fuse box cover.

    Install new fuse box
    Guide the new fuse box into position in the dash, routing the wire harness connectors through their proper channels. Align the mounting holes with the dash bracket. Hand-thread all mounting fasteners before tightening any of them.

    Tighten mounting bolts
    Tighten the mounting fasteners securely but do not overtighten, as the mounting points are plastic. Snug the bolts firmly by hand feel. Verify the fuse box is secure and does not move when pressure is applied.

    Reconnect electrical connectors
    Reconnect each electrical connector to the fuse box, ensuring each one seats fully until the locking tab clicks. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is locked in place. Double-check against your reference photos.

Reassembly

1. Reinstall the knee bolster panel and secure with all Torx T-20 screws
2. Reinstall the lower dash panel, reconnecting hood release cable if removed, and secure with 7mm screws
3. Verify all panel clips are properly seated and panels are flush
4. Reinstall the fuse box cover, ensuring it snaps fully into place
5. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery

Verification

• Turn the ignition to ON position (do not start) and verify the dash lights illuminate properly
• Check that all interior lights, power windows, and accessory circuits function correctly
• Start the engine and verify all gauges respond normally
• Test all fused circuits including HVAC blower, radio, power locks, and other accessories
• Check for any warning lights on the instrument cluster that were not present before the repair
• Verify the airbag warning light follows its normal sequence (illuminates briefly then extinguishes)
