Glove Box

This procedure covers removal and installation of the glove box assembly on a 2007 Ram 3500, including latch and dampener components.

Preparation

1. Remove all contents from the glove box compartment
2. Ensure the vehicle is parked on level ground with the ignition off
3. Open the glove box door fully to access retaining hardware
4. Position work light to illuminate the interior of the glove box and upper hinge area

Procedure

1. 1

   Open glove box and locate retaining screws
   Open the glove box door completely. Locate the glove box retention features. On this vehicle the glove box bin typically drops down by squeezing the sides past the door stops; verify whether any screws are present before assuming a specific count.

   Remove upper retaining screws
   If any retaining screws are present, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver and keep them organized for reinstallation. Otherwise proceed to releasing the door stops and dampener.

   Disconnect glove box dampener
   Locate the glove box dampener arm on the right side of the glove box. Squeeze the dampener retaining clip and pull the dampener arm away from the mounting ball on the glove box. This allows the glove box to open beyond its normal stop position.

   Release side retaining tabs
   With the glove box door open, locate the side tabs on each side of the glove box assembly. Gently squeeze the sides of the glove box inward to release these flexible tabs from the instrument panel opening. Apply even pressure to both sides simultaneously.

   Remove glove box assembly
   With all screws removed and tabs released, carefully pull the glove box assembly forward and down to remove it from the instrument panel. Guide it out through the dashboard opening, being careful not to damage surrounding trim panels.

   Inspect mounting points and hardware
   Examine the instrument panel mounting points for any damage or broken clips. Check the glove box assembly for cracked tabs, worn dampener mounts, or damaged latch components. Replace any damaged parts before reinstallation.

   Install new or repaired glove box
   Position the new or repaired glove box assembly at the dashboard opening. Align the side tabs with their corresponding slots in the instrument panel. Push the glove box straight back until the side tabs click into place on both sides.

   Secure with retaining screws
   Install all Phillips head screws along the top edge of the glove box compartment. Start all screws by hand first, then tighten them evenly in a cross pattern to ensure proper alignment. Do not overtighten as this may crack the plastic mounting points.

   Reconnect dampener arm
   Snap the glove box dampener arm back onto the ball mount on the side of the glove box. Ensure the retaining clip is fully seated. The dampener should provide smooth resistance when opening the glove box door.

Reassembly

1. Verify all retaining screws are properly tightened but not overtightened to avoid cracking plastic
2. Ensure side tabs are fully engaged and the glove box sits flush with the instrument panel
3. Confirm the dampener arm is properly connected and provides smooth operation

Verification

• Open and close the glove box door several times to verify smooth operation and proper dampening
• Check that the glove box latch engages and releases properly
• Verify there are no gaps between the glove box and instrument panel when closed
• Confirm the glove box door stops at the correct position when fully opened
• Check that there are no rattles or loose components when opening and closing the door
