Heated Seat Module

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the heated seat module, which controls the heating elements in the front seats of the 2007 Ram 3500.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Turn ignition off and remove key from ignition
3. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes minimum
4. Adjust seat to full forward position for easier access to rear mounting bolts
5. Vacuum around seat base to prevent debris from entering connectors

Procedure

1. 1

   Access seat mounting bolts
   With the seat in the full forward position, locate the two rear seat mounting bolts. These are typically metric hex-head bolts located at the rear corners of the seat track; verify the drive type before selecting a tool. Move the seat to the full rearward position to access the front mounting bolts.

   Remove seat mounting bolts
   Remove all four seat mounting bolts (two front, two rear) using the appropriate socket or bit for the fastener installed; these are commonly metric hex-head bolts. Keep bolts organized for reinstallation. Note thatbolts may have thread-locking compound applied.

   Disconnect seat wiring harness
   Carefully tilt the seat backward to access the wiring harness connectors underneath. Locate the main seat harness connector(s) which may include: heated seat connector, power seat connector (if equipped), and seat belt pretensioner connector (if equipped). Press the release tabs and disconnect all connectors. Note the routing and connection points for reassembly.

   Remove seat from vehicle
   With all electrical connections disconnected, carefully lift the seat assembly out of the vehicle. This is a heavy component; use proper lifting technique or have an assistant help. Place seat on a clean, protected work surface with the bottom facing up.

   Locate heated seat module
   With the seat inverted, locate the heated seat module. It is typically mounted to the seat frame or attached to the underside of the seat cushion. The module will have wiring harness connections leading to the heating elements in the seat cushion and backrest, as well as a connection to the vehicle harness.

   Disconnect module connectors
   Disconnect all electrical connectors from the heated seat module. Typically there will be 2-3 connectors: one for power/ground from vehicle harness, one for seat cushion heating element, and one for backrest heating element. Note connector positions and colors for correct reinstallation.

   Remove module mounting hardware
   Remove the fasteners securing the heated seat module to the seat frame. These are typically small bolts or screws. The module may also be held by plastic clips or a mounting bracket. Carefully release any clips without breaking them.

   Remove heated seat module
   Once all fasteners and connectors are removed, carefully remove the heated seat module from the seat assembly. Inspect the mounting location for any corrosion or damage that may have contributed to module failure.

   Install new heated seat module
   Position the new heated seat module in the same location and orientation as the original. Secure with the original mounting hardware, ensuring the module is firmly attached and will not vibrate or shift during vehicle operation.

    Reconnect module electrical connectors
    Reconnect all electrical connectors to the new module in the same configuration as the original. Ensure each connector clicks into place and locks securely. Verify that heating element connectors are not reversed between cushion and backrest.

    Reinstall seat in vehicle
    Carefully lift the seat assembly and position it over the mounting points in the vehicle. Align the seat tracks with the floor mounting holes. Do not pinch any wiring during installation.

    Reconnect seat wiring harness
    Before fully securing the seat, reconnect all electrical connectors under the seat to the vehicle wiring harness. Ensure proper routing of wires to prevent pinching when seat is moved forward and rearward. Verify all connectors are fully seated and locked.

    Install seat mounting bolts
    Install all four seat mounting bolts and torque to the manufacturer specification (approximately 30-45 ft-lbs; verify against the service manual). Start all bolts by hand first to ensure proper thread engagement, then tighten in a cross pattern. These bolts are critical safety components; ensure they are fully tightened.

    Reconnect battery and test
    Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition to the ON position (engine off). Test the heated seat function by activating the heated seat switch. Both low and high settings should function properly. Allow the seat to heat for 2-3 minutes and verify warmth is present in both cushion and backrest.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all seat mounting bolts are fully tightened as they are critical safety fasteners
2. Verify seat moves freely forward and rearward without binding or catching on wiring
3. Test all seat functions including power adjustments (if equipped) and seat belt operation
4. Clear any diagnostic trouble codes from the vehicle computer if the heated seat malfunction triggered a code

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and activate heated seat switch to low setting, verify seat begins to warm within 1-2 minutes
• Test high heat setting and verify increased warmth
• Check that heated seat indicator light functions correctly on instrument panel or switch
• Move seat through full range of motion (forward/back, recline if power) to ensure no wire pinching or interference
• Verify no warning lights remain illuminated on instrument cluster related to seat systems
• Test opposite seat heated function (if equipped) to confirm it was not affected by the repair
