Side Mirror Assembly

Remove and replace the side mirror assembly on a 2007 Ram 3500, including disconnecting electrical connectors and removing mounting hardware.

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and set parking brake
2. Turn ignition to OFF position; no need to disconnect battery for this procedure
3. Roll down window for easier access to interior door panel
4. Identify mirror type: power/manual, heated/non-heated, tow package or standard

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove door panel upper trim
   Using a panel removal tool, carefully pry off the small triangular trim panel at the upper front corner of the door panel where it meets the mirror base. This panel covers the mirror mounting bolts. Work gently to avoid breaking the retaining clips.

   Access mirror electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector for the power mirror (if equipped) behind the trim panel. The connector is typically a gray or black multi-pin connector attached to the mirror base wiring harness.

   Disconnect mirror wiring
   Press the locking tab on the electrical connector and pull apart to disconnect. If mirror has heated glass, there will be a second smaller connector; disconnect it as well. For manual mirrors, skip this step.

   Remove mirror mounting bolts
   Using a 10mm socket with ratchet and extension, remove the three nuts/bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. These fasteners are arranged in a triangular pattern. Support the mirror from the outside to prevent it from falling once the last one is removed.

   Extract mirror assembly
   Carefully pull the mirror assembly away from the door, feeding the wiring harness through the mounting hole if equipped with power mirrors. Remove the mirror from the vehicle. Inspect the door mounting surface and gasket for damage.

   Prepare new mirror assembly
   Unpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the original configuration (power/manual, heated, tow package). If a mounting gasket was provided, install it on the mirror base ensuring proper alignment with the mounting holes.

   Feed wiring through door
   For power mirrors, carefully feed the wiring harness from the new mirror through the mounting hole in the door frame from outside to inside. Use a wire tie or tape to help guide the connector if needed. Ensure wiring is not pinched or kinked.

   Position mirror assembly
   Align the mirror base with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Ensure the gasket seats properly against the door surface to prevent water intrusion. Hold the mirror in position while starting the mounting bolts.

   Install mounting bolts
   Thread all three 10mm mounting nuts/bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment, then tighten evenly to approximately 7 ft-lbs. Tighten firmly but do not overtighten as this may crack the mirror base or compress the gasket excessively.

    Reconnect electrical connectors
    Connect the main power mirror connector by pushing together until the locking tab clicks into place. If equipped, connect the heated mirror connector. Gently tug on each connection to verify they are secure.

    Test mirror operation
    Turn ignition to ON position (engine does not need to run). Test power mirror adjustment in all directions using the mirror control switch. If heated, activate the rear window defroster switch to test heated mirror function, noting the element may be temperature-dependent. Verify smooth operation without binding or unusual noise.

    Reinstall trim panel
    Align the triangular trim panel with its mounting location and press firmly to engage all retaining clips. Ensure the panel sits flush with the door panel and does not interfere with window operation.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
2. Verify mirror mounting bolts are tight and mirror does not wobble
3. Check that trim panel is securely clipped in place with no gaps
4. Confirm wiring is not pinched between mirror base and door

Verification

• Test power mirror adjustment in all four directions (up, down, left, right) from driver seat
• Verify heated mirror function if equipped by checking for warmth after several minutes of operation
• Visually inspect mirror for proper alignment and secure mounting with no movement
• Check that mirror does not vibrate excessively at highway speeds during test drive
• Confirm no warning lights on dashboard related to mirror function
