Seat - Front

This procedure covers the removal and installation of the front seat assembly on a 2007 Ram 3500, including disconnecting seat belt components and any electrical connectors for power seats or airbags.

• Seat mounting bolt thread locker × 1 — Medium strength thread locker

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level ground and apply parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes to deactivate airbag system
3. Move seat fully forward to access rear mounting bolts, then fully rearward to access front mounting bolts
4. Photograph all electrical connectors and wire routing under the seat
5. If equipped with center console, ensure it does not interfere with seat removal

Procedure

1. 1

   Disconnect seat electrical connectors
   Locate all electrical connectors under the seat. These may include power seat motor connectors (typically yellow or gray), seat belt buckle switch connector, seat occupancy sensor connector, and side airbag connector (typically yellow with red safety clip). Press the release tabs and disconnect all connectors. For side airbag connectors, slide the red safety lock away from the connector body before pressing the release tab.

   Remove seat belt buckle mounting bolt
   Locate the seat belt buckle mounting bolt on the inboard side of the seat frame. Use the appropriate socket (commonly a large hex-head anchor bolt, verify size on the vehicle) and ratchet to remove the bolt securing the seat belt buckle assembly to the seat frame. Allow the buckle to remain attached to the B-pillar anchor point unless seat belt replacement is required.

   Access front seat mounting bolts
   Position the seat fully rearward to expose the front mounting bolts. Peel back any carpet or trim covering the bolt heads if present. Locate the two T50 Torx bolts at the front of each seat track.

   Remove front seat mounting bolts
   Using the correct socket (commonly a 15mm or 18mm hex head — verify on the vehicle) and 1/2 inch ratchet, remove both front seat mounting bolts. These bolts secure the seat tracks to the floor pan. Keep these bolts organized as they will be reused during installation.

   Access rear seat mounting bolts
   Position the seat fully forward to expose the rear mounting bolts. Peel back any carpet or trim covering the bolt heads if present. Locate the two T50 Torx bolts at the rear of each seat track.

   Remove rear seat mounting bolts
   Using the correct socket (commonly a 15mm or 18mm hex head — verify on the vehicle) and 1/2 inch ratchet, remove both rear seat mounting bolts. Ensure all four mounting bolts have been removed before attempting to lift the seat.

   Remove seat from vehicle
   With an assistant or using proper lifting technique, tilt the seat slightly rearward and lift it up and out of the vehicle. Guide any remaining wire harnesses or seat belt components clear of the seat as you remove it. Be mindful of door sills and trim panels to avoid damage. Place the seat on a protected surface if performing repairs or replacement.

   Install replacement or refurbished seat
   Position the replacement seat into the vehicle, guiding the seat tracks over the four mounting holes in the floor pan. Ensure all electrical connectors and seat belt components are routed properly and not pinched under the seat. Tilt the seat slightly to clear the door opening and headliner.

   Install rear seat mounting bolts
   With the seat positioned fully forward, align the rear seat track mounting holes with the floor pan holes. Apply a small amount of medium-strength thread locker to the bolt threads. Start both rear mounting bolts by hand, then tighten to the manufacturer specification (typically approximately 37 ft-lbs / 50 Nm for Ram seat track bolts — verify in service data) using a torque wrench. Do not fully torque until all four bolts are installed.

    Install front seat mounting bolts
    Position the seat fully rearward and align the front seat track mounting holes with the floor pan holes. Apply a small amount of medium-strength thread locker to the bolt threads. Start both front mounting bolts by hand, then tighten to the manufacturer specification (typically approximately 37 ft-lbs / 50 Nm for Ram seat track bolts — verify in service data) using a torque wrench. Tighten all four mounting bolts in a cross pattern to ensure even seating of the tracks.

    Reinstall seat belt buckle
    Position the seat belt buckle assembly against the inboard side of the seat frame, aligning the mounting hole. Apply thread locker to the buckle anchor bolt and install it through the buckle mounting bracket. Tighten to the manufacturer specification (typically approximately 40 ft-lbs / 54 Nm — verify in service data) using the correct socket and a torque wrench.

    Reconnect electrical connectors
    Reconnect all electrical connectors under the seat, referring to the photos taken during disassembly. For side airbag connectors, ensure the connector fully seats and the red safety lock slides into the locked position. Verify each connector clicks positively into place. Route all wiring to avoid pinch points in the seat track mechanisms.

    Reconnect battery and clear codes
    Reconnect the negative battery cable. Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine. Observe the airbag warning light on the instrument cluster. It should illuminate for approximately 6-8 seconds, then extinguish. If the airbag light remains on or flashes, a diagnostic scan tool will be required to identify the fault.

Reassembly

1. Verify all four seat mounting bolts are tightened securely and seat does not rock or move on its mounts
2. Check that seat belt buckle is properly secured and operates smoothly
3. Ensure all carpet and trim pieces are returned to their original positions
4. Test all power seat functions if equipped to verify proper electrical connections

Verification

• Confirm airbag warning light extinguishes after 6-8 seconds with ignition ON
• Test all power seat adjustments including fore/aft, recline, and height if equipped
• Verify seat belt buckle latches and releases properly
• Check that seat is firmly mounted with no movement or unusual noises when occupied
• Slide seat through full range of manual or power travel to ensure no wire pinching or binding
• If equipped with heated seats, test heating function on all settings
