Seat - Rear

This procedure covers the removal and installation of the rear seat assembly in a 2007 Ram 3500 Quad Cab or Mega Cab.

• Rear seat assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
• Seat mounting hardware kit (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Remove any items from rear seat area and floor
3. Open rear doors fully for access
4. Identify seat configuration (60/40 split bench or full bench)
5. Locate all seat mounting points before beginning removal

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove rear seat cushion
   Locate the front edge of the rear seat cushion. Locate the front edge of the rear seat cushion. The cushion is retained by front clips/latches and typically hooked at the rear. Release the front retainers per the factory service procedure, then lift the cushion up and out of the vehicle.

   Disconnect seat belt buckle if equipped
   If the seat belt buckle is integrated into the seat cushion, disconnect it from its mounting point. Use a socket to remove the bolt securing the buckle to the floor or seat frame. Note the routing of the belt for proper reassembly.

   Access seat back lower mounting bolts
   With the seat cushion removed, you now have access to the lower portion of the seat back. Locate the lower mounting bolts at the base of the seat back on each side. Identify the lower mounting bolt head type before removal; confirm whether they are hex or Torx per the factory service manual.

   Remove seat back lower bolts
   Remove the lower mounting bolts on both sides of the seat back using the appropriate Torx bit or socket. Support the seat back while removing the final bolts. Remove the lower mounting bolts along the bottom of the seat back; verify the exact count and fastener type against the factory service manual for this vehicle.

   Locate upper seat back mounting points
   The upper portion of the seat back is secured to the body with bolts accessible from behind the seat back. You may need to fold or tilt the seat back forward to access these fasteners. Look for bolts near the top corners of the seat back where it meets the cab wall.

   Remove upper seat back mounting bolts
   Remove the upper mounting bolts on both sides of the seat back. Use a ratchet with extension to reach bolts in tight areas. Keep track of any spacers or washers used at these mounting points.

   Disconnect any electrical connections
   If equipped with heated seats or other electrical accessories, locate and disconnect the electrical connectors. Press the release tab and pull the connector apart. Note the routing of wiring harnesses for reinstallation.

   Remove seat back assembly
   With all fasteners removed, carefully lift the seat back assembly up and away from its mounting points. The seat back may need to be angled or tilted to clear the rear door opening; on Quad Cab models the smaller rear doors may require additional maneuvering. Have an assistant help support the weight as you maneuver it out of the vehicle.

   Install new or replacement seat back
   Position the new or replacement seat back into the vehicle, reversing the removal process. Align the mounting points with the body mounting locations. If equipped with electrical connections, route the wiring harness as noted during removal before fully seating the assembly.

    Install upper mounting bolts
    Install the upper seat back mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Once all upper bolts are started, tighten them securely in a cross pattern. Ensure any spacers or washers are in their proper positions.

    Install lower mounting bolts
    Install the lower seat back mounting bolts and tighten securely. Ensure the seat back is properly seated against all mounting surfaces before final tightening.

    Reconnect electrical connections
    If equipped, reconnect all electrical connectors for heated seats or other accessories. Ensure connectors click fully into place and wiring is not pinched or stressed.

    Install seat cushion
    Position the rear seat cushion with the rear edge seated in its recess. Align the front spring clips with their mounting points on the floor pan. Push down firmly on the front of the cushion while pushing rearward until both clips engage and the cushion is secure.

    Reconnect seat belt buckle
    If the seat belt buckle was disconnected, reinstall it to its mounting point using the original bolt. Ensure proper routing of the belt webbing and that the buckle operates freely without binding.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all mounting bolts are tightened securely
2. Verify seat cushion is fully engaged with both front retaining clips
3. Check that seat back does not have excessive movement or play
4. Ensure seat belt buckles and webbing are properly routed and not twisted

Verification

• Test seat cushion by attempting to lift at front edge - it should be firmly secured
• Push and pull on seat back to verify solid mounting with no excessive movement
• Test all seat belt buckles for proper latching and release operation
• If equipped with heated seats, turn on ignition and test heating function
• Verify seat back release mechanisms function properly if equipped with folding seats
• Ensure adequate clearance when closing rear doors with seat in normal position
