Speaker - Dash

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the dashboard speaker in a 2007 Ram 3500 with the 5.9L Cummins diesel engine.

Preparation

1. Park the vehicle on level ground and set the parking brake
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes before proceeding to allow airbag system to discharge
3. Identify which dashboard speaker needs replacement (driver side or passenger side)

Procedure

   Remove speaker grille
   Using a trim removal tool, carefully pry up the speaker grille from the dashboard. Start at one corner and work around the perimeter. The grille is held in place by plastic clips - apply steady upward pressure to release each clip without breaking them.

   Access speaker mounting screws
   Once the grille is removed, the speaker mounting screws will be visible. Note the location of any wiring harnesses or clips in the area to avoid snagging them during removal.

   Remove speaker mounting screws
   Using a Phillips screwdriver or appropriate Torx driver, remove the screws securing the speaker to the dashboard mounting bracket. Note the exact number and location of screws as you remove them, as the count varies by dash configuration. Keep these screws in a safe location for reinstallation.    Disconnect speaker wiring
   Carefully lift the speaker up from the mounting location. Reach behind the speaker and disconnect the electrical connector by pressing the release tab and pulling the connector straight off the speaker terminals. Do not pull on the wires themselves.

   Remove old speaker
   Remove the speaker completely from the dashboard. Inspect the mounting area for any debris, broken clips, or damage that may need to be addressed before installing the new speaker.

   Install new speaker
   Connect the electrical connector to the new speaker terminals until it clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the connector. Position the new speaker into the dashboard mounting location, ensuring the speaker is properly oriented with mounting holes aligned.

   Secure speaker with mounting screws
   Install the speaker mounting screws and tighten them in a cross pattern to ensure even pressure. Tighten screws firmly but do not overtighten as this can crack the speaker housing or strip the plastic mounting points.

   Reinstall speaker grille
   Position the speaker grille over the speaker and press firmly around all edges until all clips snap into place. Ensure the grille is flush with the dashboard surface and properly seated.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect the negative battery cable
2. Verify all dashboard trim pieces are properly secured and aligned

Verification

• Turn the ignition to the ON position without starting the engine
• Turn on the radio or audio system and adjust the balance/fader to direct sound to the replaced speaker
• Test the speaker at various volume levels to ensure proper operation and verify there are no rattles or distortion
• Check that the speaker grille is secure and does not vibrate or buzz during audio playback
