Tail Light Bulb

   Access tail light assembly from inside bed
   This procedure covers the replacement of tail light bulbs on a 2007 Ram 3500 by removing the tail light assembly from the rear of the vehicle to access the bulb sockets. From the rear of the vehicle, locate the two Phillips/Torx screws securing the tail light assembly to the bed on the outer edge of the lamp housing. These screws hold the entire assembly in place and must be removed to access the bulbs. Verify exact bulb number against OEM documentation or the failed bulb's markings for the specific socket (commonly 3157/3057 family).

   Remove access panel
   Using a Phillips or Torx screwdriver, remove the two screws securing the tail light assembly to the bed. Then gently pull the entire assembly straight rearward to release it from the alignment pins/grommets. Set the screws aside in a safe location.

   Locate bulb socket
   With the assembly pulled out, locate the bulb socket corresponding to the failed bulb on the back of the housing. The assembly contains sockets for tail/brake, turn signal, and reverse functions. Identify the correct socket based on which function has failed.

   Remove bulb socket from housing
   Grasp the bulb socket firmly and rotate counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it releases from the tail light housing. Pull the socket straight back out of the housing. Do not pull on the wiring harness.

   Remove failed bulb
   With the socket removed, push the bulb gently into the socket while rotating counterclockwise to release it from the bayonet-style mount. If the bulb is stuck, gently wiggle while applying slight inward pressure and rotating. Remove the old bulb and inspect the socket for corrosion or damage.

   Install new bulb
   Using a clean cloth or gloves to avoid touching the glass, align the new bulb pins with the socket slots. Push the bulb in gently and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is seated fully and securely in the socket.

   Reinstall bulb socket
   Insert the bulb socket back into the tail light housing, aligning the tabs properly. Rotate the socket clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position. Gently tug on the socket to verify it is secured.

   Test bulb operation
   Before reinstalling the access panel, have a helper turn on the ignition and test the new bulb function (brake lights, turn signals, or running lights as applicable). Verify the bulb illuminates properly and is the correct brightness.

   Reinstall access panel
   Position the access panel back over the opening and secure with the original screws or push clips. Tighten screws snugly but do not overtighten to avoid cracking the plastic panel.

Reassembly

1. Ensure access panel is fully secured to prevent rattling and moisture intrusion
2. Raise tailgate and verify it operates normally without interference
3. Clean any fingerprints or dirt from tail light lens exterior

Verification

• Turn ignition to ON position and verify running lights illuminate
• Press brake pedal and confirm brake lights function on both sides
• Activate turn signals and hazard lights to verify proper operation
• Have helper observe all tail light functions while you operate controls from driver seat
• Verify no moisture or gaps around access panel that could allow water intrusion
