Power Window Motor - Rear

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the rear power window motor on a 2007 Ram 3500 Mega Cab with rear opening windows.

• Rear power window motor × 1 — Mopar 68029175AA or aftermarket equivalent
• Door panel retaining clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
2. Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 2 minutes for system discharge
3. Roll rear window to approximately mid-position if motor is still functional for easier access
4. Prepare a clean work area to place door panel and hardware

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove rear door panel
   Remove the screw cover cap behind the interior door handle. Remove the screw securing the door handle trim (verify size — commonly Torx T20/T30 or 8mm/10mm hex on Ram interior panels). Remove any visible screws from the door panel perimeter (typically two at the bottom edge). Use trim panel removal tool to carefully pry around the perimeter of the door panel to release the retaining clips. Lift the panel upward to disengage from the window sill and disconnect any electrical connectors on the back of the panel.

   Remove water shield
   Carefully peel back the plastic water shield vapor barrier to expose the window regulator and motor assembly. Only remove enough of the shield to access the motor mounting bolts. Keep the shield intact for proper reinstallation to maintain moisture barrier.

   Support window glass
   Use masking tape or have an assistant hold the window glass in the up position to prevent it from falling when the regulator is disconnected. Alternatively, use wooden blocks or specialized window support tools wedged between the glass and door frame.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the electrical connector on the window motor. Press the locking tab and disconnect the wiring harness from the motor. Note the connector orientation for reassembly.

   Remove window motor mounting bolts
   Locate the bolts securing the window motor to the regulator assembly (verify count and fastener type — may be 10mm hex or Torx T30). These fasteners are accessible through access holes in the inner door structure. Remove all mounting bolts while supporting the motor to prevent it from falling.

   Separate motor from regulator
   Carefully pull the motor away from the regulator drive mechanism. The motor gear engages with the regulator mechanism and may require slight rotation to disengage. Remove the motor through the door access opening.

   Install new window motor
   Position the new window motor to the regulator assembly, ensuring the motor gear properly meshes with the regulator drive mechanism. The motor will only fit in one orientation. Align the mounting holes carefully.

   Secure motor mounting bolts
   Install the mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Tighten bolts evenly in a cross/star pattern to secure the motor firmly to the regulator, torqued to approximately 7 ft-lbs (M6) — verify spec in service manual. Verify the motor is seated flush against the regulator mounting surface.

   Reconnect electrical and test
   Reconnect the electrical connector to the window motor, ensuring it clicks into place. Temporarily reconnect the battery negative terminal. Test window operation through full up and down travel to verify proper motor function and smooth operation before reassembling door panel. Disconnect battery again before proceeding.

    Reinstall water shield and door panel
    Press the water shield back into position, ensuring complete adhesion around all edges to maintain moisture seal. Position the door panel, reconnect any electrical connectors, and engage the panel onto the window sill. Press firmly around the perimeter to seat all retaining clips. Reinstall all 7mm screws and trim covers.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all door panel clips are properly seated before pressing firmly into place
2. Verify the water shield is completely adhered with no gaps or tears
3. Reconnect battery negative terminal after all interior work is complete

Verification

• Test rear window operation through full travel in both directions multiple times
• Verify window operates smoothly without binding or unusual noise
• Check that window seats properly at full up position with good seal
• Verify all door panel clips are secure and panel does not rattle
• Test any other switches on the door panel to confirm proper electrical connections
