Power Window Regulator - Front

This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the front door power window regulator assembly on a 2007 Ram 3500, including window glass removal and door panel disassembly.

Preparation

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait 2 minutes for capacitors to discharge
2. Roll the window completely up if functional, or manually raise and secure with tape
3. Remove any personal items from door storage pockets
4. Prepare a clean work area to set the door panel without scratching

Procedure

1. 1

   Remove door panel trim components
   Remove the master switch panel (power window, lock, and mirror controls) located in the armrest/pull-handle area by prying gently to release the retaining clips. Tilt the panel out and disconnect all electrical connectors.

   Remove door panel fasteners
   Remove the door panel retaining screws (verify screw type — commonly found behind the armrest, pull-handle cup, and along the lower edge; screw head type may be Phillips or Torx). Remove any bezel-retaining screws and carefully remove the bezels.

   Detach and remove door panel
   Starting at the bottom rear corner, use a door panel tool to release the retaining clips around the perimeter of the door panel. Work your way around the panel, being careful not to break clips. Lift the panel up and away from the door frame to disengage the upper lip. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors (courtesy lamp, etc.) and remove the panel completely.

   Remove water vapor barrier
   Carefully peel back the plastic vapor barrier sheet, starting from one corner. Work slowly to avoid tearing. If the barrier is held with butyl adhesive, it can usually be reused if removed carefully. Fold it back to expose the window regulator mechanism and mounting points.

   Secure window glass
   If the window is already up, secure it in the full-up position using masking tape from the glass to the door frame exterior. If the window is partially down, carefully raise it manually by hand and tape it securely in the up position to prevent it from falling during regulator removal.

   Disconnect window glass from regulator
   Locate the window glass attachment points to the regulator channel (typically 2 fasteners accessible through access holes in the door frame). Remove the fasteners securing the glass to the regulator mounting bracket (verify fastener size against service documentation). Tilt the glass forward or rearward as needed to separate it from the regulator channel.

   Disconnect window motor electrical connector
   Locate the window motor electrical connector inside the door cavity. Press the locking tab and disconnect the connector from the window motor. Ensure the connector is positioned out of the way for regulator removal.

   Remove window regulator mounting fasteners
   Locate all regulator mounting fasteners (typically 3-4 bolts or rivets). If bolted, remove the 10mm or 8mm bolts securing the regulator to the door frame. If riveted, use a drill with an appropriately sized twist drill bit to carefully drill out the rivet heads, being careful not to enlarge the holes in the door frame.

   Remove regulator assembly
   Carefully maneuver the regulator assembly through the large access opening in the door frame. The regulator arms and motor assembly may need to be collapsed or rotated to fit through the opening. Feed the motor and cable/rail assembly out together, taking care not to snag any remaining wiring or components.

    Install new regulator assembly
    Position the new regulator assembly and carefully feed it into the door cavity through the access opening. Align the regulator mounting holes with the door frame mounting points. Ensure all regulator arms and rails are properly positioned and not binding against the door frame.

    Secure new regulator
    Install the mounting bolts or rivets to secure the regulator to the door frame. If using bolts, tighten securely (verify torque specification against service documentation). If using rivets, install replacement rivets of the same diameter as the originals in the original locations using a rivet gun. Ensure the regulator is firmly mounted without movement.

    Connect electrical and attach window glass
    Reconnect the window motor electrical connector, ensuring it clicks into place. Lower the window glass into the door cavity and align the glass mounting holes with the regulator channel brackets. Install the glass mounting fasteners (verify size against service documentation) and tighten snugly.

Reassembly

1. Reconnect the negative battery cable temporarily and test window operation through full up and down travel before reinstalling the door panel
2. If window operates correctly, disconnect battery again and reinstall the vapor barrier, ensuring proper seal around all edges
3. Align the door panel with the upper door frame lip and press firmly around all perimeter clip locations to seat the panel
4. Reinstall all T-30 Torx screws, door handle bezel, and trim components
5. Reconnect all electrical connectors for switches and accessories
6. Reconnect the negative battery cable permanently

Verification

• Reconnect the battery and test window operation through multiple full cycles, verifying smooth operation without binding or unusual noise
• Check that the window seals properly at the top of travel and does not rattle when fully closed
• Verify all door panel clips are secure and there are no gaps between the panel and door frame
• Test all window switches, door locks, and mirror controls to ensure all electrical connections are properly made
• Check for proper door panel fitment with no interference with door opening or closing
