Warnings
⚠️Disconnect 12V battery and wait at least 10 minutes before starting work to allow airbag system capacitors to discharge
⚠Do not rotate steering wheel with combination switch disconnected while vehicle is in service mode, as this may set steering angle sensor faults
⚠The high voltage system must be in service mode before disconnecting the 12V battery to prevent system errors
ℹ️Document connector orientations and wire routing with photos before disassembly

Parts
- Combination switch assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Steering column trim clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Place vehicle in park on level ground and engage parking brake
- Enter high voltage service mode through vehicle touchscreen menu: Settings > Service > Service Mode > Enable
- Wait for confirmation that high voltage system is disabled (orange service light on dash)
- Open front trunk (frunk) and locate 12V battery compartment
- Disconnect negative terminal of 12V battery using 10mm socket
- Wait minimum 10 minutes for airbag system capacitor discharge
- Adjust steering wheel to lowest and fully extended position for access
- Take photos of existing wiring and connector positions for reference
Procedure
- 1Remove lower steering column coversUsing trim panel tools, carefully pry the lower steering column cover away from the upper cover starting at the rear seam. Release the retaining clips on both sides. Remove the two T20 Torx screws at the bottom of the lower cover and pull the cover down and away from the column.
- 2Remove upper steering column coverLocate and remove two T20 Torx screws at the top of the upper steering column cover. Gently lift the upper cover upward while releasing the front clip tabs. Carefully maneuver the cover over the combination switch stalks and set aside.
- 3Disconnect driver airbag connectorLocate the yellow airbag connector (clockspring connector) on the left side of the steering column. Press the locking tab and carefully disconnect the connector. Secure the connector away from the work area to prevent damage.
- 4Disconnect combination switch main harness connectorLocate the main combination switch connector on the right side of the steering column bracket. Press the connector locking tab (red or gray) and pull the connector straight out from the switch assembly. Note the connector orientation and wire routing.
- 5Remove combination switch mounting fastenersLocate the two T25 Torx screws securing the combination switch assembly to the steering column bracket. These are typically positioned on the front and rear of the switch housing. Remove both screws completely and retain for reassembly.
- 6Remove combination switch assemblyWith fasteners removed, carefully pull the combination switch assembly straight away from the steering column. The switch may have locating pins that need to be disengaged. Gently rock the assembly side to side while pulling to release it from the column bracket.
- 7Inspect steering column and connectorsExamine the steering column mounting points for any damage or wear. Inspect all electrical connectors for corrosion, bent pins, or debris. Clean connector terminals with electrical contact cleaner if necessary. Check that the clockspring (airbag spiral cable) rotates freely and is centered.
- 8Install new combination switch assemblyPosition the new combination switch assembly onto the steering column bracket, aligning the locating pins with the corresponding holes. Ensure the switch sits flush against the mounting surface before installing fasteners. The wiper stalk should be on the right side and turn signal stalk on the left.
- 9Install combination switch mounting fastenersInsert both T25 Torx screws into the combination switch mounting holes and tighten evenly. Start with finger-tight, then snug both screws alternately to ensure even seating. Final tighten firmly but do not over-torque as the housing is plastic-backed.
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorsReconnect the main combination switch harness connector to the switch assembly, ensuring it clicks into place and the locking tab engages. Reconnect the yellow airbag clockspring connector, verifying the lock tab fully seats. Verify all connections are secure with a gentle pull test.
- 11Reinstall steering column coversPosition the upper steering column cover over the switch stalks and align it with the lower mounting points. Press down firmly to engage the clip tabs and install the two T20 Torx screws at the top. Install the lower cover by aligning the rear clips first, snapping into place, then installing the two lower T20 Torx screws.
- 12Reconnect 12V battery and exit service modeReturn to the frunk and reconnect the negative terminal of the 12V battery using 10mm socket. Tighten securely. Enter the vehicle and power on the touchscreen. Navigate to Settings > Service > Service Mode and disable service mode to restore high voltage system operation.
Reassembly
- Ensure all steering column trim panels are fully seated with no gaps or misalignment
- Verify all Torx fasteners are installed and properly tightened
- Check that no wires are pinched between trim panels or steering column components
- Confirm steering wheel adjustment controls operate normally after covers are reinstalled
Verification
- Turn vehicle to ON position and verify no warning lights related to steering, airbag, or driver assistance systems appear on dashboard
- Test turn signal operation in both left and right positions, verify indicator lights and cancel function work properly
- Test windshield wiper controls through all speed settings and intermittent modes
- Test windshield washer function
- Test high beam and headlight flash functions
- Test cruise control activation and all control functions (set, resume, cancel)
- Verify all lane keeping assist and driver assistance controls on the switch respond correctly
- Rotate steering wheel lock-to-lock and verify no binding or interference with switch stalks or column covers
- Perform a short test drive to confirm all combination switch functions operate correctly under normal driving conditions
- Use vehicle diagnostic system or OBD scanner to verify no fault codes are present for combination switch or related systems
