Parts

  • Wiper linkage assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
  • Cowl panel clips × 8 — Use OEM specification
  • Wiper arm bushings (if worn) × 2 — Use OEM specification

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Ensure vehicle is powered off and all doors are closed
  3. Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery located in front trunk area
  4. Wait 2 minutes for system capacitors to discharge
  5. Move wiper arms to vertical service position if functional
  6. Cover fenders with protective material to prevent scratches during cowl removal
  7. Photograph wiper arm resting positions for reference

Procedure

  1. 1
    Remove wiper arms
Lift the wiper arm cap at the base of each wiper arm. Remove the 13mm retaining nut from each wiper arm shaft. Mark the exact position of each wiper arm on the windshield with tape. Use a wiper arm puller or carefully rock the wiper arms while pulling upward to release them from the splined shafts. Remove both wiper arms completely.
  2. 2
    Remove cowl screen panel
Open the front trunk to access the rear edge of the cowl panel. Remove the rubber weatherstrip seal along the rear of the cowl by pulling upward. Locate and remove all Torx T25 screws securing the cowl screen panel (typically 4-6 screws). Use panel removal tools to carefully release the retaining clips along the edges of the cowl screen. Lift the cowl screen panel away from the vehicle and set aside.
  3. 3
    Disconnect washer fluid hoses
Locate the washer fluid hoses connected to the wiper nozzles integrated into the cowl area. Use a small flathead screwdriver to release the hose clips. Carefully pull the hoses off the nozzle fittings. Cap or plug the hoses to prevent fluid leakage during the repair.
  4. 4
    Disconnect wiper motor electrical connector
Locate the wiper motor assembly on the driver side of the cowl area. Press the release tab on the electrical connector while pulling it straight away from the wiper motor. Ensure the connector is fully disconnected and secured away from the work area.
  5. 5
    Remove wiper motor mounting bolts
Remove the three 10mm bolts securing the wiper motor to the bulkhead. Support the motor assembly to prevent it from dropping. Carefully maneuver the motor away from the mounting surface while keeping the linkage attached.
  6. 6
    Detach linkage from drive arm
Locate the ball joint connection between the wiper motor drive arm and the linkage assembly. Use a small flathead screwdriver to carefully pry the linkage ball socket off the motor drive arm ball stud. Support the linkage as you disconnect it to prevent sudden movement due to spring tension.
  7. 7
    Remove linkage pivot mounting hardware
Locate the pivot mounting points for both the driver and passenger side wiper linkage pivots. Remove the 10mm nuts or bolts securing each pivot bracket to the bulkhead (typically 2-3 fasteners per pivot). Keep track of any spacers or washers present at the pivot points.
  8. 8
    Extract wiper linkage assembly
Carefully lift and maneuver the entire wiper linkage assembly out through the cowl opening. The assembly may need to be rotated or angled to clear surrounding structures. Inspect the removed linkage for wear, cracks, or binding in the pivot points.
  9. 9
    Prepare new linkage assembly
Unpack the new wiper linkage assembly and compare it to the removed unit to verify correct replacement part. Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the pivot bushings and ball joints. Ensure all pivot points move freely without binding.
  10. 10
    Install new linkage assembly
Position the new linkage assembly into the cowl area, aligning the pivot mounting points with their respective holes in the bulkhead. Install the mounting hardware for both driver and passenger side pivots, threading bolts or nuts finger-tight initially. Ensure the linkage sits flush against the mounting surface before tightening fasteners securely.
  11. 11
    Connect linkage to wiper motor
Position the wiper motor assembly near its mounting location. Align the motor drive arm ball stud with the linkage ball socket. Press the socket firmly onto the ball stud until it clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently tugging on the linkage.
  12. 12
    Reinstall wiper motor
Position the wiper motor against the bulkhead, aligning the mounting holes. Install the three 10mm motor mounting bolts and tighten securely. Reconnect the electrical connector to the wiper motor, ensuring it clicks fully into place.

Reassembly

  1. Reconnect washer fluid hoses to the nozzle fittings and secure with clips
  2. Install the cowl screen panel by aligning clips and pressing into place, then install all Torx screws
  3. Reinstall the rubber weatherstrip seal along the rear edge of the cowl
  4. Reinstall wiper arms onto the splined shafts according to marked positions, install retaining nuts and tighten with 13mm socket
  5. Close wiper arm caps at the base of each arm
  6. Reconnect the 12V auxiliary battery

Verification

  • Power on the vehicle and cycle the wipers through all speed settings to verify smooth operation without binding or unusual noise
  • Test the park position to ensure wipers return to the correct resting position
  • Check for proper alignment of wiper blades across the windshield throughout the full sweep
  • Verify both wiper arms move in sync without delay or hesitation
  • Test washer fluid spray function to ensure nozzles are properly connected
  • Inspect the cowl area for any fluid leaks after washer operation
  • Verify no rattles or loose components in the cowl area when operating wipers
