This procedure covers the removal and installation of the side mirror assembly on a 2025 Rivian EDV 500, including disconnecting electrical connectors and removing mounting hardware.
Warnings
⚠Disconnecting the 12V battery will require vehicle reinitialization. Ensure you have access to Rivian service procedures for post-repair initialization.
⚠Electric vehicles maintain high voltage systems. Do not attempt to work on orange high-voltage cables. This procedure only involves 12V systems.
ℹ️The side mirror contains heating elements, blind spot monitoring sensors, and camera systems that must be properly reconnected and calibrated.

Parts
- Side mirror assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Door trim panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Mirror gasket/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Disconnect the 12V auxiliary battery located in the front trunk area to prevent electrical shorts
- Wait 2 minutes after battery disconnect to allow capacitors to discharge
- If replacing mirror due to damage, apply masking tape around mirror mounting area to protect paint
- Ensure replacement mirror assembly matches vehicle configuration (camera, blind spot monitoring, heated, power-folding features)
Procedure
- 1Remove door trim panel upper sectionUsing trim panel removal tools, carefully pry the upper door trim panel near the mirror mounting area. Start at the rear edge and work forward. Release the retaining clips by gently pulling outward. On the EDV 500, there are typically 3-4 clips in the upper section. Set the trim piece aside in a safe location.
- 2Access mirror wiring harnessLocate the mirror wiring harness behind the upper door trim. The harness will be routed through the door structure to the mirror base. Identify the main electrical connector which contains circuits for power folding, heating, blind spot monitoring, and camera systems (if equipped).
- 3Disconnect mirror electrical connectorPress the locking tab on the mirror electrical connector and carefully pull the connector apart. The EDV 500 uses a gray multi-pin connector. Do not pull on the wires themselves. If the connector is tight, use an electrical connector release tool to avoid damaging the locking mechanism.
- 4Remove mirror mounting fastenersLocate the three T25 Torx bolts securing the mirror assembly to the door frame. These are typically arranged in a triangular pattern. Support the mirror from the outside with one hand while removing the bolts to prevent it from falling. Remove all three bolts completely.⚠Support the mirror assembly from outside the vehicle to prevent it from falling and causing damage or injury when the final bolt is removed.
- 5Remove mirror assembly from doorWhile supporting the mirror from outside, carefully guide the wiring harness through the door opening. Remove the mirror assembly completely from the vehicle. Inspect the mounting surface and gasket area for damage or corrosion.
- 6Inspect and clean mounting surfaceExamine the door mounting surface for any damage, corrosion, or debris. Clean the mounting surface with a lint-free cloth. Check that the door frame is not bent or damaged. If the original gasket/seal is damaged or compressed, remove it and prepare for new gasket installation.
- 7Prepare new mirror assemblyUnpack the new mirror assembly and verify it matches the original configuration (camera, blind spot sensors, power folding, heated glass). Install a new gasket/seal onto the mirror base if not pre-installed. Ensure the gasket is properly seated in the groove around the mirror base.
- 8Route wiring and position new mirrorThread the mirror wiring harness through the door opening from outside to inside. Align the mirror base with the three mounting holes on the door frame. Ensure the gasket is properly positioned and not pinched. Have an assistant support the mirror from outside or use tape to temporarily hold it in position.
- 9Install mirror mounting boltsInstall all three T25 Torx mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Once all bolts are started, tighten them in a star pattern to ensure even pressure on the gasket. Since no torque specification is available in the database, tighten bolts firmly but do not overtighten. The mirror should be secure without compressing the gasket excessively.ℹ️Tighten bolts evenly in a star pattern to prevent gasket distortion and ensure proper weather sealing.
- 10Connect mirror electrical connectorReconnect the mirror electrical connector, ensuring it clicks fully into place. Verify the locking tab is engaged. Gently tug on the connection to confirm it is secure. Ensure no wires are pinched or under tension.
- 11Reinstall door trim panelPosition the upper door trim panel back into place. Align all clip locations and press firmly to seat each clip. Work from front to back, ensuring each clip engages with an audible click. Verify the trim panel is flush with surrounding surfaces.
- 12Reconnect 12V battery and initialize vehicleReconnect the 12V auxiliary battery in the front trunk. Follow Rivian service procedures to reinitialize the vehicle systems. This typically involves powering on the vehicle and allowing all systems to complete their self-checks.
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panels are securely fastened with no gaps or loose clips
- Verify the mirror gasket is properly sealed to prevent water intrusion
- Check that no wiring is pinched between panels or under tension
- Confirm all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
Verification
- Power on the vehicle and test mirror power folding function in both directions
- Test mirror adjustment in all directions (up, down, left, right) from driver controls
- Verify heated mirror function activates when rear defrost is engaged
- Check that blind spot monitoring indicators function properly if equipped
- Verify side camera image displays correctly on center screen if equipped
- Inspect mirror for secure mounting with no play or movement
- Check for proper weather sealing with no visible gaps around mirror base
- Test mirror memory function if equipped by cycling through driver profiles
- Perform a visual inspection for proper alignment with opposite side mirror
