Warnings
⚠️Disconnect 12V battery and wait 5 minutes before beginning work to prevent airbag deployment and electrical short circuits
⚠The display screen is fragile and expensive. Support the unit during removal to prevent dropping
⚠Do not force trim panels or connectors. Rivian panels use specific release points that can break if pried incorrectly
ℹ️This procedure may require vehicle reconfiguration through Rivian service software after installation

Parts
- Center display head unit assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Display mounting bracket (if damaged) × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Trim panel clips (replacement for broken clips) × 5 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Ensure ignition is off and remove key fob from vehicle interior
- Open hood and disconnect 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal
- Wait minimum 5 minutes for capacitor discharge and system power-down
- Ensure work area has adequate lighting to see behind center console
- Have a clean, padded surface ready to place removed display unit
Procedure
- 1Remove lower center console trim panelUsing plastic trim tools, carefully release the lower center console trim panel below the display. Start at the bottom edge and work upward, releasing 4 clips along the perimeter. Pull panel away gently once all clips are released and set aside.
- 2Remove center console side trim panelsRemove the left and right side trim panels adjacent to the center stack. Each panel is secured with 3 clips. Insert trim tool at rear edge of each panel and gently pry outward to release clips. These panels provide access to mounting hardware.
- 3Remove climate control panel trimIf equipped, carefully remove the climate control panel trim located below the main display. Release 2 clips at top edge and pull panel forward. Disconnect the climate control connector by pressing the release tab and pulling straight back. Support the panel to avoid stress on wiring.
- 4Access display mounting fastenersLocate the four T25 Torx mounting screws securing the display assembly to the mounting bracket. Two screws are accessible from each side opening created by removing side trim panels. Remove all four mounting screws and retain for reinstallation.
- 5Release display retention clipsAt the top edge of the display, locate two spring-loaded retention clips. Use a small flathead or trim tool to press each clip release tab downward while gently pulling the display forward approximately 1 inch. Do not pull display more than 2 inches from dash at this stage.
- 6Access rear connectorsWith display partially extracted, reach behind the unit from below or side openings. Identify three main connectors: main power/data harness (largest connector), GPS antenna connector, and auxiliary connector. Note the routing and orientation of each connector before removal.
- 7Disconnect electrical connectorsDisconnect the main power/data harness by pressing the red safety lock tab and then squeezing the release lever while pulling connector straight back. Disconnect GPS antenna by rotating collar counterclockwise 1/4 turn and pulling. Disconnect auxiliary connector by pressing release tab and pulling away. Support the display weight throughout this process.
- 8Remove display unitWith all connectors disconnected, carefully pull display assembly forward and out of the dash opening. Guide the unit through the opening at a slight angle if needed. Place display screen-side-up on padded surface away from work area.
- 9Inspect mounting bracket and connectionsExamine the mounting bracket for damage or loose fasteners. Check all connector pins for damage, corrosion, or debris. Clean connector contacts with electronic contact cleaner if needed. Verify mounting screws threads are clean and undamaged.
- 10Prepare new head unitRemove protective film from new display unit screen. Inspect all connector ports on back of new unit for shipping plugs or protective covers and remove them. Verify new unit part number matches original or approved replacement specification.
- 11Connect electrical connectors to new unitPosition new display near dash opening. Connect auxiliary connector first, then GPS antenna (rotate collar clockwise 1/4 turn until it clicks), then main power/data harness last. Ensure red safety lock engages fully on main connector. Verify all connections are secure with gentle pull test.
- 12Install new display unitCarefully guide new display assembly into dash opening. Align top retention clips with their slots and push unit rearward until clips engage with audible click. Ensure display sits flush with surrounding trim and is properly aligned vertically and horizontally.
- 13Install mounting fastenersInstall four T25 Torx mounting screws through side access points, threading into mounting bracket. Tighten screws in cross pattern (opposite corners) to ensure even seating. Tighten screws firmly but do not over-torque as this can crack mounting points.
- 14Reconnect battery and initial testReconnect 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal. Wait 30 seconds for system initialization. Without reinstalling trim panels yet, turn vehicle to ON position and verify display powers up and shows boot sequence. Check for error messages on display.
- 15Reinstall trim panelsReconnect climate control connector if applicable and reinstall climate control panel trim. Reinstall left and right side trim panels, ensuring all clips engage properly. Reinstall lower center console trim panel, pressing firmly around perimeter until all clips seat. Verify all panels are flush and secure.
Reassembly
- Ensure all trim panel clips are fully seated and panels are flush with no gaps
- Verify display screen is clean and free of fingerprints or installation marks
- Check that all removed fasteners have been reinstalled
- Ensure no tools or parts are left in vehicle interior or behind dash panels
Verification
- Power on vehicle and verify display boots properly without error codes
- Test touch screen responsiveness across all areas of display
- Verify all infotainment functions operate correctly: navigation, audio, climate controls, vehicle settings
- Check that backup camera displays properly when shifting to reverse
- Verify Bluetooth and wireless connectivity functions work
- Test display brightness adjustment and automatic brightness function if equipped
- Confirm GPS satellite acquisition and navigation functionality
- Check for any warning lights or diagnostic codes using vehicle menu
- Verify display does not move or rattle when pressing on unit or driving
- If applicable, complete vehicle reconfiguration through Rivian service software or schedule service appointment for software initialization
