Parts
- Subwoofer assembly × 1 — Use OEM Rivian part or compatible replacement
- Plastic trim clips (assorted) × 1 — Rivian trim clip kit
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Ensure ignition is off and key/phone is away from vehicle
- Open rear cargo doors for access
- Disconnect 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal located under hood
- Wait 5 minutes for vehicle systems to fully power down
- Identify subwoofer location (typically under driver seat or in rear cargo panel depending on EDV configuration)
- Document existing wiring connections with photos before disconnection
Procedure
- 1Access subwoofer locationFor driver seat installation: Remove driver seat by disconnecting electrical connectors underneath and removing four T25 Torx bolts securing seat rails to floor. Carefully tilt seat rearward and remove from vehicle. For rear cargo installation: Remove rear interior panel using panel removal tools to release retaining clips along perimeter.
- 2Remove protective coverLocate subwoofer protective cover or enclosure. Remove T20 Torx screws securing cover (typically 4-6 screws depending on location). Carefully set cover aside with screws organized for reinstallation.
- 3Disconnect subwoofer electrical connectorLocate the main audio harness connector at the subwoofer. Press release tab and carefully pull connector straight out from subwoofer terminal. Verify no resistance; do not force connector.
- 4Remove subwoofer mounting hardwareRemove mounting bolts or brackets securing subwoofer to vehicle structure. Typically four 10mm bolts or T25 Torx screws. Support subwoofer weight while removing final fastener.
- 5Extract subwoofer assemblyCarefully lift subwoofer from mounting location, ensuring no wires are caught or pinched. Tilt as necessary to clear surrounding structures. Inspect mounting area for any damage or debris.
- 6Inspect mounting area and harnessCheck mounting surface for cracks, corrosion, or damage. Inspect electrical connector pins for corrosion or bent terminals. Clean mounting surface with isopropyl alcohol if necessary. Verify harness routing is clear of sharp edges.
- 7Test new subwoofer (optional)If available, use multimeter to verify impedance of replacement subwoofer matches original specification (typically 2-4 ohms). Check voice coil for continuity and verify no short to ground.
- 8Install replacement subwooferPosition new subwoofer into mounting location, aligning mounting holes with vehicle structure. Ensure gasket or seal (if equipped) is properly positioned. Thread all mounting bolts finger-tight before final tightening.
- 9Secure mounting hardwareTighten all mounting bolts in cross-pattern sequence to ensure even pressure distribution. Use 10mm socket or T25 Torx driver as appropriate. Verify subwoofer is secure with no movement or rattles.
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorAlign electrical connector and press firmly until release tab clicks into locked position. Gently tug connector to verify secure connection. Ensure harness routing matches original path without tension or kinks.
- 11Reinstall protective coverPosition subwoofer cover or enclosure back into place. Install all T20 Torx screws and tighten securely. Verify cover sits flush with no gaps.
- 12Restore access panelsIf driver seat was removed: Reinstall seat by reversing removal procedure, connecting all electrical connectors before securing T25 Torx bolts. If rear panel was removed: Align panel and press firmly to engage all retaining clips, replacing any damaged clips as needed.
Reassembly
- Reconnect 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal
- Power on vehicle and allow infotainment system to fully boot
- Replace any damaged trim clips with new ones from Rivian parts kit
- Ensure all panels are flush and secure with no rattles
Verification
- Turn on vehicle and access audio system settings through center display
- Play audio with significant bass content to test subwoofer operation
- Verify no rattles, buzzing, or distortion at various volume levels
- Test fade/balance settings to confirm subwoofer is properly integrated with system
- Check for any fault codes in vehicle diagnostics related to audio system
- Verify all trim panels and seat (if removed) are securely reinstalled
- Test seat occupancy sensors and seatbelt indicators if driver seat was removed
