This procedure covers the removal and replacement of the windshield washer pump on a 2025 Rivian EDV 500, including accessing the washer fluid reservoir and electrical connections.
Warnings
⚠The high-voltage battery system is active when the vehicle is on. Ensure the vehicle is fully powered down before beginning work.
ℹ️Washer fluid will drain from the reservoir and hoses during pump removal. Have absorbent materials ready.
ℹ️This vehicle uses a 12V accessory electrical system for the washer pump, separate from the high-voltage traction system.

Parts
- Windshield washer pump × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Washer pump seal/grommet × 1 — Use OEM specification
Fluids
- Windshield Washer Fluid — 3.5 qt
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Power down the vehicle completely and remove the key fob from the cabin
- Open the front hood and locate the washer fluid reservoir (typically driver side front corner)
- Place drain pan and shop towels beneath the work area to catch spilled washer fluid
- Disconnect the 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal to isolate electrical system
Procedure
- 1Access the washer fluid reservoirRemove any trim panels or covers obstructing access to the washer reservoir. On the EDV 500, this may include removing the driver side front wheel well liner or inner fender panel fasteners using trim removal tools. Identify the reservoir location and clear adequate working space.
- 2Drain the washer fluid reservoirUse a fluid transfer pump or large syringe to remove as much washer fluid as possible from the reservoir into a clean container for reuse. Alternatively, disconnect the outlet hose at the reservoir to allow fluid to drain into the drain pan. The reservoir holds approximately 3.5 quarts.
- 3Disconnect electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector on the washer pump at the bottom of the reservoir. Press the locking tab and carefully pull the connector away from the pump. If testing the old pump, use a multimeter to verify 12V power supply at the connector when the washer control is activated.
- 4Disconnect washer fluid hosesIdentify the outlet hose(s) connected to the washer pump. These are typically push-fit connections. Squeeze the hose clamp or locking collar and pull the hose straight off the pump outlet. Note the routing of hoses for reinstallation. Some residual fluid will drain from the hoses.
- 5Remove the washer pump from reservoirThe pump is typically secured in the reservoir by a twist-lock mechanism or mounting tabs. Rotate the pump counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull downward to extract it from the reservoir grommet. If the pump is stuck, gently rock it side to side while pulling. Remove the rubber seal/grommet with the pump.
- 6Inspect and clean the reservoir mounting areaExamine the pump mounting hole in the reservoir for cracks, debris, or damage. Clean the sealing surface thoroughly with a clean rag. Inspect the interior of the reservoir through the pump opening for contamination or debris that could damage the new pump.
- 7Prepare the new washer pumpRemove the new pump from packaging and verify it matches the original pump configuration. Install the new seal/grommet onto the pump body, ensuring it is fully seated in its groove. Lubricate the grommet lightly with clean washer fluid to ease installation.
- 8Install the new washer pumpInsert the new pump into the reservoir mounting hole, aligning any orientation tabs or slots. Push the pump firmly into place and rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn to lock it into position. Verify the pump is secure and the grommet is properly sealed against the reservoir.
- 9Reconnect washer fluid hosesPush the outlet hose(s) firmly onto the pump outlet nipple(s) until fully seated. Verify the hose clamp or locking collar engages properly. Tug gently on each hose to confirm secure attachment.
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorAlign the electrical connector with the pump terminals and push firmly until the locking tab clicks into place. Verify the connection is secure by gently pulling on the connector.
- 11Refill washer fluid reservoirPour washer fluid back into the reservoir through the fill neck. Fill to the appropriate level marked on the reservoir (approximately 3.5 quarts total capacity). Use fresh fluid if the old fluid was contaminated.
- 12Reconnect 12V battery and test operationReconnect the 12V auxiliary battery negative terminal. Power on the vehicle and activate the washer system. Verify the pump operates smoothly without unusual noise and that fluid sprays properly onto the windshield. Check all connections for leaks while the pump is running.
Reassembly
- Reinstall any trim panels, wheel well liners, or covers removed during access
- Verify all fasteners are properly secured
- Clean up any spilled washer fluid from the engine bay and surrounding areas
- Top off washer fluid reservoir to maximum fill line if needed after testing
Verification
- Activate the windshield washer system and confirm strong, consistent spray pattern on windshield
- Listen for normal pump operation without grinding, squealing, or cavitation noises
- Inspect all hose connections and pump mounting area for fluid leaks
- Verify washer fluid level remains stable after multiple spray cycles
- Test both intermittent and continuous spray functions to ensure proper pump performance
