Replace the multifunction turn signal stalk switch on a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Cyberbeast. Note that the Cybertruck uses steer-by-wire — the steering column contains no mechanical shaft to the wheels, but the column still houses the stalk assembly and clockspring/SCCM electronics that must be handled carefully.
Warnings
⚠️This Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage system (NOT 12V). Connectors, fusing, and arc energy differ from other Teslas — a 48V short can sustain a far more dangerous arc than 12V. Always disconnect the low-voltage battery before touching column wiring.
⚠️Steer-by-wire: the steering column contains electronic torque/position sensors and a clockspring-style rotary coupler for the yoke controls. Do NOT rotate the column hub with the yoke removed, and do NOT power the vehicle with the steering subsystem disassembled.
⚠Do not deploy or strike the yoke — it contains a live airbag. Wait the full 2 minutes after low-voltage disconnect before touching any airbag-related connector (yellow connectors).
⚠Stainless exoskeleton scratches and shows fingerprints permanently. Cover the A-pillar and door sill area with a clean soft cover before reaching into the column area.
ℹ️After reassembly, the vehicle may require a steering angle / steer-by-wire calibration and a stalk function self-test via Service Mode. If unavailable, drive cycle relearn may suffice for basic turn signal function but is not guaranteed for ADAS features.

Parts

Preparation
- Park on level ground, place in P, engage parking brake.
- Exit ALL doors with the key fob away from the vehicle. Wait at least 2 minutes for HV systems to fully de-energize, even on this non-HV job.
- Disconnect the low-voltage battery. NOTE: This Cybertruck uses a 48V architecture — locate the 48V low-voltage battery per the manufacturer-specified location and disconnect the negative terminal first using insulated tools.
- DO NOT touch, cut, or pierce ANY orange cable — these are high-voltage (800V on Cybertruck) and lethal.
- If at any point you encounter an orange cable, an HV component, or are unsure if a system is de-energized: STOP and consult a Tesla-certified technician.
- Wait an additional 2 minutes after low-voltage disconnect before working near the airbag/clockspring area to allow SRS capacitors to discharge.
- Center the front wheels (visually) before disconnecting — although steer-by-wire decouples the yoke, the road-wheel actuator should remain in its last commanded position. Do not turn the yoke after power-down.
- Cover the driver's seat, sill, and lower A-pillar with clean soft covers to protect interior and stainless trim.
Procedure
- 1Remove the yoke (steering wheel)Tilt and telescope the column to its fullest accessible position (do this BEFORE low-voltage disconnect if possible; otherwise it will be in last-saved position). With low-voltage already disconnected, locate the yoke retention fasteners behind the yoke per the manufacturer-specified procedure. Disconnect the yoke control harness and the airbag (yellow) connector by lifting the lock tab and gently pulling. Remove the yoke straight off the hub. Set yoke face-up on a padded surface — never face-down (airbag deployment direction).⚠️Yellow connector = airbag. Do not pull on the wire. Lift the CPA lock first, then release the main lock.
- 2Remove lower and upper steering column shroudsLocate and remove the cover screws securing the lower column shroud. Separate the lower shroud from the upper shroud at the seam using a plastic trim tool. Remove the upper shroud. - 8Reconnect the stalk harnessReconnect the stalk's electrical connector until the lock tab clicks fully home. Tug-test the connector to confirm engagement.
Reassembly
- Reinstall the upper and lower steering column shrouds, ensuring all clips are seated before driving screws. Torque cover screws to spec (Steering Column Covers torque).
- Reinstall the yoke onto the column hub in the same orientation it was removed. Reconnect the airbag (yellow) connector first, then the control/heater harness. Verify CPA locks are fully seated.
- Torque the yoke retention hardware to OEM specification — refer to Tesla Service Manual.
- Reconnect the 48V low-voltage battery (positive first if disconnected, then negative last per standard practice — verify against Tesla service documentation for Cybertruck-specific sequence). Torque terminal bolts to spec.
- If a ground bolt was disturbed during the procedure, torque to the Ground Bolt specification (CRITICAL).
- Close all doors, wait 30 seconds, then approach with the key fob to wake the vehicle.
Verification
- Power up the vehicle and verify no SRS/airbag warning, no EPAS/steer-by-wire warning, and no stalk-related fault on the center display.
- Test left turn signal, right turn signal, lane-change tap function, high-beam flash, and (if equipped on this stalk) wiper/washer functions.
- If the vehicle displays a steering angle calibration request or a stalk learn request, perform via Service Mode or a short low-speed drive cycle in a safe area as instructed by the on-screen prompt.
- Verify Autopilot/ADAS features arm normally — turn signal input is required for automatic lane change, so test signal recognition by the driver-assist system.
- Inspect column shrouds for even gaps and that no clips were broken during reinstallation.
- Service interval reminder: while the column is open, this is also a convenient time to verify cabin air filter age (Tesla recommends replacement every 2 years) — though it is a separate job.
