Replace the side mirror glass on a 2024 Tesla Cybertruck Dual Motor. The glass is heated and held to a powered actuator plate by clips and electrical pin connectors; no mirror housing removal is required.

Warnings

Cybertruck uses a 48V low-voltage architecture — mirror heater and actuator circuits are NOT 12V. Do not back-probe or jumper connectors with 12V test gear.
Stainless steel exoskeleton scratches and dents differently than painted panels. Use only plastic pry tools and tape adjacent surfaces. Do NOT strike the mirror housing or surrounding panel with any metal tool.
If the existing glass is already cracked, wear cut-resistant gloves and eye protection. Tempered glass fragments are sharp and can fall into the mirror housing where they may jam the actuator.
ℹ️Mirror glass is bonded to a plastic backing plate that clips onto the powered actuator. Pulling on the glass alone (not the backing plate) will shatter it.

Tools required

Parts

  • Cybertruck side mirror glass assembly (heated, with backing plate) — left or right as applicable × 1 — Tesla OEM Cybertruck-specific mirror glass — order by VIN, left/right side

Preparation

  1. Park on level ground, place in P, engage parking brake.
  2. Exit ALL doors with the key fob away from the vehicle. Wait at least 2 minutes for HV systems to fully de-energize, even on this non-HV job.
  3. Disconnect the low-voltage battery (48V system on Cybertruck — NOT 12V). Refer to the Tesla Service Manual for the Cybertruck-specific LV battery disconnect location and procedure, as terminals and fusing differ from S/3/X/Y.
  4. DO NOT touch, cut, or pierce ANY orange cable — these are high-voltage and lethal.
  5. If at any point you encounter an orange cable, an HV component, or are unsure if a system is de-energized: STOP and consult a Tesla-certified technician.
  6. Identify which side (driver or passenger) requires service and confirm the replacement glass matches that side and is heated/powered to match the original.
  7. Using the mirror adjustment controls before disconnecting LV power, tilt the mirror glass fully INWARD (toward the cabin) to expose the outer edge of the glass for prying. Then disconnect LV battery per the step above.
  8. Apply painter's tape around the perimeter of the mirror housing opening to protect the housing finish from pry-tool contact.

Procedure

  1. 1
    Position the actuator for access
With LV power still connected, use the in-cabin mirror controls to tilt the affected mirror glass fully inboard (top edge tilted toward the vehicle). This exposes the outer-edge gap between the glass backing plate and the mirror housing, providing leverage room for the pry tool. Once positioned, disconnect the LV battery as described in preparation.
  2. 2
Insert plastic pry tool behind the glass
From the outboard edge, gently insert a flat plastic pry tool between the glass backing plate and the mirror housing. Work the tool only against the rigid plastic backing plate — never pry against the glass surface itself, which will shatter. Keep the tool angled away from the actuator motor body.
Do not insert any metal tool. Metal will scratch the stainless housing trim and may short the heater grid on the back of the glass.
  3. 3
    Release the backing plate clips
The mirror glass backing plate is retained by spring clips that engage the actuator plate. Apply steady, even outward pressure with the pry tool to release each clip in sequence (typically working around the perimeter). The backing plate will pop free with a noticeable click. Pull the glass straight out of the housing only enough to access the connectors behind it — wires are still attached.
If the glass resists significant force, stop and reposition the pry tool. Excessive force will shatter the glass or break clips on the actuator plate, which are not separately serviceable.
  4. 4
    Disconnect mirror heater leads
With the glass tilted out, locate the two spade-terminal leads connecting the heater grid on the back of the glass to the wiring harness in the housing. Note their orientation (some are color-coded; if not, photograph before removal). Pull each spade terminal straight off its post — do not yank on the wires. Set the old glass aside on a soft surface, glass-side up.
ℹ️Cybertruck mirror heater is fed from the 48V LV system. Do not let the spade terminals contact the stainless housing or each other after LV battery reconnection.
  5. 5
    Inspect the actuator and housing
Inspect the mirror actuator plate for cracked clip posts, debris, or loose hardware. Inspect the housing interior for any glass fragments and remove them. Confirm the actuator moves freely by hand through its small range of motion. If the actuator is damaged, this procedure does not cover its replacement — refer to the Tesla Service Manual.
  6. 6
Connect heater leads to new glass
Take the new mirror glass assembly. Connect the two spade-terminal heater leads to the posts on the back of the new glass in the same orientation noted during removal. Ensure each terminal is fully seated — a partial connection can arc and burn out the heater grid.
  7. 7
Seat the new glass onto the actuator
Align the backing plate clips with the corresponding receivers on the actuator plate. Press firmly and evenly on the rigid backing plate (NOT the glass face) until all clips snap home. You should hear/feel each clip engage. Verify the glass sits flush within the housing perimeter with even gaps all around.
Press only on the plastic backing plate edges or on the housing-supported area of the glass. Pressing in the unsupported center of the glass can crack it.

Reassembly

  1. Remove the painter's tape from the mirror housing.
  2. Reconnect the Cybertruck LV (48V) battery per the Tesla Service Manual, observing correct terminal sequence and torque (refer to OEM specification — do not guess).
  3. Close all doors and allow the vehicle to fully wake (LV systems re-initialize).
  4. Clean the new mirror glass with a clean microfiber cloth to remove fingerprints and packaging residue.

Verification

  • From the driver's seat, cycle the mirror adjustment in all four directions (up/down/left/right) and confirm smooth motion with no binding, grinding, or clicking from the actuator.
  • Center the mirror to the driver's preferred position.
  • Activate the rear defroster (mirror heaters are typically tied to the rear defrost circuit on Tesla vehicles). After several minutes in cool ambient conditions, confirm the new glass warms evenly with no cold spots — uneven heating indicates a partially seated spade terminal.
  • Check the touchscreen for any mirror-related fault messages. Clear any that appeared during LV battery disconnect by driving a short distance.
  • Verify the auto-fold and auto-dim (if equipped) functions still operate correctly by locking/unlocking the vehicle and observing mirror behavior.
  • Confirm the glass sits flush in the housing with no rattles at highway speed during a brief road test.
