Parts
- Audio amplifier module × 1 — Use OEM specification or compatible aftermarket
- Trunk trim panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — 90467-07164 or equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off ignition and remove key from vehicle
- Open trunk and clear all items from trunk area for workspace access
- Verify vehicle is equipped with premium JBL audio system before proceeding
Procedure
- 1Disconnect battery negative terminalOpen hood and locate the battery in the engine compartment. Using a 10mm socket, loosen the negative terminal bolt and remove the negative cable from the battery. Secure the cable away from the battery terminal to prevent accidental reconnection. Wait at least 3 minutes to allow electrical systems to discharge.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 2Remove rear trunk left side trim panelFrom inside the trunk, locate the left rear side trim panel. The amplifier is mounted behind this panel on the driver side. Using a trim tool, carefully pry out the plastic trim clips starting from the top rear corner and working downward. Pull the panel away from the body to release all clips and set aside.
- 3Locate amplifier moduleWith the trim panel removed, locate the amplifier module mounted to the inner trunk panel structure. The amplifier is a rectangular black or silver box approximately 8x6 inches with multiple wire connectors attached. Note the routing of all wiring harnesses before disconnecting.
- 4Disconnect amplifier wiring harnessesDisconnect all wiring harnesses from the amplifier. There are typically 3-4 connectors: speaker outputs, power/ground, and input signal connectors. Press the release tabs on each connector and pull straight out. Do not pull on wires. If connectors are stubborn, spray with electrical contact cleaner and work gently to avoid breaking tabs.⚠Connector tabs are plastic and can break if excessive force is applied. Work carefully to preserve connectors for reinstallation.
- 5Remove amplifier mounting boltsUsing a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the bracket. There are typically 3-4 bolts holding the unit in place. Support the amplifier with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling. Remove the amplifier from the vehicle.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 6Inspect mounting bracket and ground connectionWith the amplifier removed, inspect the mounting bracket for damage or corrosion. If the amplifier had a separate ground wire, inspect the ground connection point on the vehicle body. Clean any corrosion from the ground contact point using a wire brush or sandpaper to ensure proper electrical contact.
- 7Install new amplifierPosition the new amplifier onto the mounting bracket, aligning the bolt holes. Install the mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment. Once all bolts are started, torque the mounting bolts in a cross pattern to the specified torque value using a torque wrench.⚠Do not overtighten mounting bolts as this can crack the amplifier housing or strip threads in the bracket.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect wiring harnessesReconnect all wiring harnesses to the amplifier in the reverse order of removal. Ensure each connector clicks firmly into place and the locking tab engages. Gently tug on each connector to verify it is secure. Verify wire routing matches the original configuration to prevent pinching when reinstalling the trim panel.
- 9Reinstall trunk side trim panelPosition the trunk side trim panel back into place. Starting from the bottom, press firmly on each clip location until you hear and feel the clip snap into place. Work your way around the entire panel perimeter, ensuring all clips are fully seated. Replace any broken clips with new ones.
- 10Reconnect battery negative terminalReturn to the engine compartment and reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery terminal. Tighten the terminal bolt to the specified torque using a torque wrench. Ensure the connection is snug but do not exceed the specified torque to avoid damaging the terminal or cable clamp.⚠Battery terminals are soft lead alloy. Overtightening will strip threads and damage the battery post.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Verify all trunk trim panels are securely fastened with no gaps or loose clips
- Ensure no tools or parts were left in the trunk area
- Close trunk and verify proper latching operation
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine and verify no warning lights related to audio system appear
- Start the vehicle and turn on the audio system
- Test all speakers by adjusting balance and fader controls to verify each speaker produces sound
- Test subwoofer output by playing bass-heavy content at moderate volume
- Verify sound quality is clear without distortion, crackling, or dropouts
- Test at various volume levels from low to high to ensure amplifier operates correctly throughout range
- If applicable, re-enter radio security code and reset clock and audio presets
