Parts

  • Engine oil filter × 1 — Toyota 04152-YZZA6 or equivalent
  • Oil drain plug crush washer × 1 — Toyota 90430-12031
  • Engine air filter × 1 — Toyota 17801-0V010 or equivalent
  • Cabin air filter × 1 — Toyota 87139-02090 or equivalent

Fluids

  • Toyota Genuine 0W-20 — 5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Allow engine to cool completely if recently driven (minimum 30 minutes)
  3. Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before starting
  4. Lift front of vehicle with floor jack and secure on jack stands at manufacturer-designated lift points
  5. Remove engine splash shield fasteners (if equipped) to access oil filter and drain plug

Procedure

  1. 1
    Drain engine oil
Locate oil drain plug on bottom of oil pan. Position drain pan underneath. Using 14mm socket, loosen drain plug slowly. Once loose, remove by hand and allow oil to drain completely (5-10 minutes). Inspect drain plug threads and oil pan threads for damage. Remove and discard old crush washer from drain plug.
  2. 2
Install oil drain plug with new crush washer
Install new crush washer onto drain plug. Once oil has fully drained, thread drain plug by hand into oil pan to avoid cross-threading. Tighten drain plug to specification using torque wrench.
  3. 3
    Replace engine oil filter
Locate oil filter on passenger side of engine block, accessed from underneath. Position drain pan to catch residual oil. Use oil filter wrench to loosen and remove old filter (expect approximately 1/4 quart of oil to drain). Clean filter mounting surface on engine block. Apply thin film of fresh oil to rubber gasket on new filter. Thread new filter by hand until gasket contacts mounting surface, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn by hand only. Do not use filter wrench for installation.
  4. 4
    Refill engine oil
Lower vehicle from jack stands. Open hood and locate oil filler cap on top of engine (marked with oil can symbol). Remove cap and insert funnel. Add 4.5 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0W-20 oil initially. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle, then check dipstick. Add remaining oil in small increments until level reaches between low and high marks on dipstick. Do not overfill. Install oil filler cap securely.
  5. 5
    Replace engine air filter
Locate air box assembly on driver side of engine compartment. Release four air box clips (two on each side) by pulling upward. Lift top of air box housing. Remove old engine air filter and inspect air box interior for debris. Clean if necessary with shop rag. Install new air filter ensuring rubber gasket seats properly in housing groove. Replace air box cover and secure all four clips until they click into place.
  6. 6
    Replace cabin air filter
Open glove box and empty contents. Push both sides of glove box inward to release stoppers and lower glove box fully. Locate cabin air filter cover on right side. Press tabs on both sides of cover and pull straight out to remove. Slide old cabin air filter out, noting airflow direction arrow. Insert new cabin air filter with airflow arrow pointing toward rear of vehicle. Reinstall cover until tabs click. Return glove box to normal position.
  7. 7
    Inspect and top off fluids
With engine cold, check coolant level in overflow reservoir (should be between LOW and FULL marks). Check brake fluid level in master cylinder reservoir (should be at MAX line). Check windshield washer fluid and top off if needed. Inspect coolant hoses for cracks or leaks. Inspect brake lines for damage or leaking. Note: This vehicle uses electric power steering with no fluid to check.
  8. 8
    Inspect belts and hoses
Visually inspect serpentine belt for cracks, fraying, or glazing. Check belt tension by pressing firmly in center - should deflect approximately 1/4 inch. Inspect all visible coolant hoses and clamps for deterioration, cracks, or leaks. Check upper and lower radiator hoses by squeezing - should feel firm but pliable, not soft or brittle.
  9. 9
    Check and adjust tire pressures
Using tire pressure gauge, check pressure in all four tires plus spare. Compare to specification on driver door jamb placard (typically 35 PSI front and rear for this model). Adjust as necessary. Visually inspect tires for uneven wear, damage, or foreign objects. Check tread depth - replace tires if tread depth is less than 4/32 inch.
  10. 10
Start engine and check for leaks
Start engine and allow to idle. Monitor oil pressure warning light - should extinguish within 2-3 seconds. Let engine run for 5 minutes to reach operating temperature. While running, check underneath vehicle for any oil leaks from drain plug or filter. Check engine oil level again after engine has run - add if necessary to reach proper level on dipstick. Shut off engine.
  11. 11
    Reset maintenance reminder
Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine. Using steering wheel controls, navigate to Settings > Vehicle Settings > Maintenance System. Select Oil Maintenance and choose Reset. Confirm reset. The maintenance required light on instrument cluster should now be cleared. If vehicle has Entune system, maintenance reminder can also be reset through touchscreen menu.

Reassembly

  1. Reinstall engine splash shield if removed, ensuring all fasteners are secured
  2. Double-check that oil filler cap is installed securely
  3. Verify no tools or rags are left in engine compartment
  4. Close hood and ensure it latches properly

Verification

  • Confirm oil level is between LOW and HIGH marks on dipstick with engine off and vehicle level
  • Verify no oil leaks present under vehicle after test drive
  • Confirm maintenance reminder light has been reset and is not illuminated
  • Test drive vehicle for 10-15 minutes and recheck oil level after engine cools for 10 minutes
  • Verify all warning lights function normally during startup and extinguish after engine starts
  • Document service date and mileage for maintenance records
