Parts
- Audio amplifier × 1 — Use OEM specification (varies by audio system)
- Trim panel clips (if damaged) × 1 — 90467-09139
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off ignition and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 3 minutes for system discharge
- Ensure rear seats are clear of objects
- Have container ready for small fasteners and clips
Procedure
- 1Disconnect batteryLoosen the 10mm bolt on the negative battery terminal and carefully remove the cable from the battery post. Secure the cable away from the battery to prevent accidental reconnection during the repair.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 2Remove rear seat cushionLocate the two front clips at the bottom front edge of the rear seat cushion. Push the seat cushion firmly toward the rear of the vehicle while lifting upward at the front to disengage the clips. Remove the seat cushion completely from the vehicle.
- 3Remove rear seatbackPull the seatback release levers on both sides to fold the rear seatback forward. Locate the lower mounting bolts at the base of each seatback section (typically 2 bolts per side). Remove these bolts and lift the seatback assembly out of the vehicle to access the rear package tray area.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 4Remove rear package tray trim panelStarting at the edges, carefully use trim removal tools to release the clips securing the rear package tray trim panel. Work slowly around the perimeter, supporting the panel as you release clips. Once all clips are free, lift the panel up and away from the rear deck. Note the location of any wiring harnesses or speaker wires that may be attached.⚠Clips are fragile and break easily if excessive force is used
- 5Locate amplifierThe amplifier is mounted to the metal rear deck panel, typically on the driver side. It is a rectangular metal box approximately 8x6 inches with multiple wire harness connectors. Use a shop light to clearly identify the amplifier and its mounting configuration.
- 6Disconnect amplifier connectorsIdentify all wire harness connectors attached to the amplifier (typically 3-5 connectors depending on audio system). Press the locking tab on each connector and pull straight away from the amplifier. Do not pull on wires. Note the position and color coding of each connector for reinstallation.
- 7Remove ground connectionLocate the ground strap bolt connecting the amplifier chassis to the vehicle body. This is typically a black wire with a ring terminal. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground strap. Inspect the contact surfaces for corrosion.ℹ️Ground connection must be clean and tight for proper amplifier operationTorque specGround Bolt14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 8Remove amplifier mounting boltsRemove the mounting bolts securing the amplifier to the rear deck panel. Depending on the model, there will be 2-4 bolts. Keep these bolts organized for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Remove amplifierCarefully lift the amplifier assembly away from the mounting location. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or damage. If the amplifier had thermal compound or adhesive pads, note their locations for proper reinstallation of the new unit.
- 10Install new amplifierPosition the new amplifier in the mounting location, aligning the bolt holes with the mounting points on the rear deck panel. Install and torque the mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern to ensure even seating.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 11Reconnect ground connectionClean both the amplifier ground contact point and the vehicle body contact surface with a wire brush or sandpaper to ensure bare metal contact. Position the ground strap ring terminal and install the ground bolt. Torque to specification.Torque specGround Bolt14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 12Reconnect amplifier connectorsReconnect all wire harness connectors to the amplifier in their original positions. Ensure each connector locks firmly into place with an audible click. Verify no pins are bent and all connectors are fully seated.
- 13Reconnect batteryReconnect the negative battery cable to the battery terminal. Torque the terminal bolt to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the battery terminal.⚠Overtightening battery terminals can crack the battery caseTorque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Before reinstalling trim panels, turn on the ignition and test the audio system at low volume to verify amplifier operation
- Reinstall rear package tray trim panel, ensuring all clips are properly aligned before pressing into place
- Reinstall rear seatback assembly and torque mounting bolts to specification
- Reinstall rear seat cushion by engaging rear hooks first, then pressing down firmly at the front until clips engage
- Reset clock and radio presets as needed
Verification
- Turn on ignition and audio system, verify all speakers are producing sound without distortion
- Test all audio sources (radio, USB, Bluetooth) to confirm amplifier is processing signals correctly
- Check for any unusual noises, buzzing, or humming from the audio system
- Verify amplifier is not overheating after 10-15 minutes of operation at moderate volume
- Ensure all trim panels are securely fastened with no rattles or gaps
