Parts
- Roof antenna assembly (shark fin) × 1 — 86389-06150 or equivalent
- Antenna base seal/gasket × 1 — Use OEM specification if damaged
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Ensure roof and antenna area are clean and dry
- If vehicle has sunroof, ensure it is fully closed
- Have replacement antenna and gasket ready before removal
Procedure
- 1Access overhead console areaOpen both front doors for working access. Use plastic trim removal tool to carefully pry down the overhead console cover near the dome light. This provides access to the headliner area below the antenna. Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
- 2Locate and access antenna mountingFrom inside the vehicle, look up toward the front center of the headliner where the antenna is mounted. You may need to partially lower the headliner edge near the windshield or use a flashlight to see the mounting hardware. The antenna cable connector will be visible along with the mounting hardware.
- 3Disconnect antenna cableLocate the coaxial antenna cable connector attached to the base of the antenna assembly. Press the release tab and pull straight down to disconnect. Note the routing of the cable for reinstallation. Do not pull on the cable itself, only on the connector body.
- 4Remove antenna mounting hardware from insideUsing a 10mm socket with short extension, remove the mounting hardware securing the antenna base from inside the vehicle. There are typically 2-3 bolts or nuts holding the antenna base. Support the antenna from outside with your other hand to prevent it from falling when the last fastener is removed.⚠Support antenna from outside before removing final fastener to prevent it from falling and damaging the roof paint
- 5Remove antenna assembly from outsideFrom outside the vehicle, carefully lift the antenna assembly straight up and away from the roof. The base seal/gasket will come with it. Inspect the gasket for damage or deterioration. Clean the roof mounting surface with a clean cloth, removing any old gasket material or debris.
- 6Install new antenna gasketPlace the new antenna base gasket onto the roof opening, ensuring it is properly seated and aligned with the mounting holes. If reusing the old gasket, inspect it carefully for tears or compression damage. The gasket must seal completely to prevent water intrusion.
- 7Position new antenna assemblyFrom outside the vehicle, position the new antenna assembly over the mounting holes, ensuring the gasket remains properly aligned. Press down gently to seat the base against the gasket. The antenna cable connector should be accessible from inside.
- 8Install mounting hardwareFrom inside the vehicle, thread the mounting nuts or bolts by hand onto the antenna base studs. Once all fasteners are started, tighten them in a cross pattern using a 10mm socket. Tighten to 8.0 Nm (6 lb-ft) if using a torque wrench, or snug by hand plus 1/4 turn. Do not overtighten as this may crack the antenna base or compress the gasket excessively.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect antenna cableConnect the coaxial antenna cable to the base of the new antenna assembly. Push firmly until you hear or feel a click, indicating the connector is fully seated. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is locked in place.
- 10Reinstall overhead console trimCarefully push the overhead console cover back into place, ensuring all clips are properly aligned. Press firmly around the perimeter until all clips snap into place. Verify dome light and console functions operate normally.
Reassembly
- Verify antenna base is seated flush against roof with no gaps
- Ensure all interior trim pieces are properly clipped and secured
- Check that antenna cable routing matches original path with no kinks or sharp bends
Verification
- Turn on radio and test AM/FM reception across multiple stations to verify antenna is functioning
- If equipped with satellite radio, verify it receives signal properly
- Inspect antenna base from outside for proper sealing with no visible gaps
- Test overhead console functions (dome light, sunglasses holder if equipped) to ensure proper reinstallation
- During next rain or car wash, inspect headliner near antenna for any water leaks
