- Roll window down approximately 2 inches to prevent glass stress during panel removal
- Identify which door requires handle replacement and work from that door
Procedure
- 1Remove door panel lower coverLocate the small triangular or rectangular cover at the bottom front corner of the door panel near the interior handle. Use a trim removal tool to gently pry this cover off, exposing a Phillips screw beneath. Remove the screw.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 2Remove door panel mounting screwsLocate and remove the two Phillips screws inside the door pull handle recess. On models with door pocket, remove the screw at the bottom of the pocket. Remove the screw behind the cover removed in Step 1.Torque specPanel Bolts14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 3Release door panel trim clipsStarting at the bottom rear corner of the door panel, insert a trim removal tool between the panel and door frame. Gently pry outward to release the trim clips working your way around the perimeter. There are typically 8-10 clips around the panel edge. Listen and feel for each clip releasing.⚠Pull panel straight out, not upward, until all clips are released to avoid breaking clips or damaging panel.Torque specTrim Clips3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 4Lift and disconnect door panelOnce all clips are released, lift the door panel upward approximately 1 inch to disengage it from the window frame lip. Tilt the panel away from the door at the bottom while keeping the top engaged. Locate and disconnect the electrical connector for the power window/lock switch pack by pressing the tab and pulling straight out. If equipped, disconnect puddle light connector.ℹ️Support the panel weight while disconnecting electrical connectors to avoid stress on wiring.
- 5Remove interior handle cable and illumination connectorWith panel removed and set aside on a clean surface, locate the metal or plastic cable clip securing the door latch cable to the back of the handle assembly. Use a flat-head screwdriver to carefully pry the cable end off the handle lever. If equipped with ambient lighting, disconnect the small connector from the handle housing.Torque specCable Clips5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 6Remove interior handle mounting screwsLocate the two Phillips screws securing the interior handle assembly to the door panel structure. These are typically positioned at the front and rear of the handle mounting bracket. Remove both screws completely.Torque specHandle Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 7Remove interior handle assemblyCarefully pull the handle assembly away from the door panel inner structure. Guide the cable end and any wiring through the mounting opening. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or broken clip pieces before installing the new handle.ℹ️Compare old and new handle assemblies to ensure correct part before installation.
- 8Install new interior handle assemblyPosition the new handle assembly into the door panel mounting location, feeding any wiring or cable through first. Align the mounting screw holes with the bracket. Install both mounting screws finger-tight, then torque to specification using a torque wrench. Ensure handle operates smoothly without binding.Torque specHandle Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect cable and electrical connectionsSnap the door latch cable end onto the handle lever mechanism until it clicks into place. Verify the cable moves freely when handle is operated. If equipped with lighting, reconnect the electrical connector ensuring it locks fully.Torque specCable Clips5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 10Reinstall door panelReconnect the power window/lock switch pack electrical connector and any other connectors disconnected during removal. You should hear distinct clicks as each clip engages.ℹ️Replace any broken trim clips before reinstalling panel to ensure secure attachment.Torque specTrim Clips3 Nm (2 lb-ft)

Reassembly
- Verify all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked
- Confirm all trim clips are properly engaged with no gaps between panel and door frame
- Ensure door latch cable is properly routed and not kinked or binding
- Test handle operation before closing door to verify proper installation
Verification
- Operate interior door handle through full range of motion; door should unlatch smoothly without excessive force or binding
- Test door locking and unlocking from both interior and exterior to confirm cable is properly connected
- Check that door panel is secure with no rattles when closing door or driving
- If equipped, verify puddle light or ambient lighting illuminates when door is opened
- Confirm power window and lock switches operate normally after panel reinstallation
