Parts

  • Front fender liner (wheel well splash shield) × 1 — Use OEM specification - specify left or right side
  • Push-type retainer clips × 8 — Toyota 90467-07166 or equivalent

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn steering wheel fully to the opposite direction of the side being serviced (turn right for left fender, left for right fender) to improve access
  3. Loosen wheel lug nuts while vehicle is on ground
  4. Raise vehicle with floor jack and secure with jack stands at manufacturer-specified jacking points
  5. Remove wheel completely and set aside

Procedure

  1. 1
Remove push-type retainer clips along fender liner edge
Locate the push-type retainer clips securing the fender liner to the fender and bumper cover. Use a flat blade screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry up the center pin of each clip, then remove the entire clip. There are typically 5-7 clips along the top edge of the liner.
  2. 2
Remove Phillips screws from lower fender liner
Locate and remove the Phillips head screws securing the lower portion of the fender liner to the underbody. There are typically 3-4 screws along the bottom edge and wheel well opening. Keep screws organized for reinstallation.

  3. 3
Disconnect fender liner from bumper cover
Remove the screws or clips connecting the front edge of the fender liner to the rear edge of the bumper cover. Gently pull the liner away from the bumper cover to separate.

    Bumper Cover Bolts10 Nm (7 lb-ft)
  4. 4
    Remove rear mounting fasteners
Locate the 10mm bolts or clips securing the rear edge of the fender liner to the rocker panel area. Remove these fasteners completely. On some models, there may be a combination of bolts and push clips.
    Torque spec
    Body Panel Bolts25 Nm (18 lb-ft)
  5. 5
    Remove fender liner from vehicle
With all fasteners removed, carefully pull the fender liner out of the wheel well. Flex the liner as needed to clear any remaining attachment points. Inspect the removed liner for damage patterns that may indicate underlying issues.
  6. 6
    Clean mounting surfaces and inspect
Clean all mounting surfaces on the fender, bumper cover, and underbody where the new liner will attach. Remove any debris, mud, or corrosion. Inspect for any damaged clips or threaded holes that need repair.
  7. 7
    Position new fender liner
Align the new fender liner into the wheel well, ensuring it fits properly around the wheel arch and lines up with all mounting holes. The liner should sit flush against the fender edge with no gaps.
  8. 8
    Install rear mounting fasteners
Install the bolts or clips at the rear edge of the fender liner to the rocker panel area. If using bolts, tighten to specification. Ensure the liner is properly seated before final tightening.

  9. 9
    Attach liner to bumper cover
Connect the front edge of the fender liner to the bumper cover using the original screws or new clips. Ensure proper alignment before tightening. Tighten bumper cover fasteners to specification.

    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  11. 11
    Install push-type retainer clips
Install new push-type retainer clips along the top edge of the fender liner. Insert the clip body into the hole first, then press the center pin down firmly until it clicks and is flush with the clip body. Verify each clip is fully seated.
    Torque spec
    Trim Clips3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
  12. 12
    Reinstall wheel and lower vehicle
Reinstall the wheel onto the hub and hand-tighten lug nuts in a star pattern. Lower vehicle until tire contacts ground but weight is not fully on wheel. Torque lug nuts to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft) in a star pattern. Fully lower vehicle and remove jack stands.

Reassembly

  1. Verify all clips and fasteners are fully seated and secure
  2. Check that fender liner does not interfere with tire rotation at full steering lock in both directions
  3. Ensure no gaps exist between liner and body panels where water or debris could enter

Verification

  • Turn steering wheel to full lock in both directions and verify no rubbing or interference between tire and fender liner
  • Visually inspect from underneath that liner is properly seated and all fasteners are installed
  • Test drive vehicle and listen for any rattles or loose components from the wheel well area
  • After first drive, re-inspect fender liner installation to ensure nothing has shifted or come loose
