This procedure covers removal and replacement of the front fog light assembly on a 2018-2024 Toyota Camry with 2.5L I4 engine, including bulb and housing replacement.

Warnings

Allow fog lights to cool for at least 15 minutes if recently used to avoid burns
ℹ️This procedure does not require battery disconnection or wheel removal
Handle halogen bulbs with clean gloves or cloth - skin oils reduce bulb life

Tools required

10mm socket and ratchetEssential
Phillips head screwdriverEssential
Flat blade screwdriver or trim toolEssential
Torque wrench (3-15 Nm range)
Work light or flashlight

Parts

  • Fog light assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent
  • H16 fog light bulb (if bulb only replacement) × 1 — 81210-06050 or equivalent
  • Push pin retainers (if damaged) × 4 — 90467-07164 or equivalent

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn off ignition and ensure fog lights have cooled completely
  3. Turn steering wheel full left to access right fog light, full right to access left fog light
  4. Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning

Procedure

  1. 1
Access the fog light from wheel well
From inside the front wheel well, locate the plastic splash shield that covers the fog light area. This is a flexible panel secured by push pins and screws. You may need to crouch or lie down to see the fog light housing from this angle.
  2. 2
Remove wheel well splash shield fasteners
Remove the plastic push pin retainers securing the inner portion of the wheel well splash shield. Typically 3-4 push pins secure the section near the fog light. Use a flat blade screwdriver or trim tool to carefully pry the center pin up, then remove the entire retainer. Remove the Phillips screw near the fog light area if present.
    Torque spec
    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
  3. 3
    Pull back splash shield
Gently pull back the flexible splash shield to expose the rear of the fog light assembly. You should now have clear access to the fog light housing and electrical connector. The shield does not need to be completely removed, just folded back enough to work.
  4. 4
    Disconnect fog light electrical connector
Locate the electrical connector on the back of the fog light assembly. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull straight back to disconnect. Some resistance is normal, but do not force - ensure the tab is fully depressed before pulling.
  5. 5
    Remove fog light mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket, remove the two mounting bolts securing the fog light assembly to the bumper bracket. These bolts are typically located at the top and bottom of the fog light housing. Keep bolts in a safe location for reinstallation.
    Torque spec
    Bracket Bolts20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
  6. 6
    Remove fog light assembly
Carefully pull the fog light assembly forward and out through the bumper opening. Angle the assembly as needed to clear the bumper. The assembly should come out easily once the mounting bolts are removed. Inspect the mounting points for damage or corrosion.
  7. 7
    Transfer bulb if necessary
If replacing only the housing and the existing bulb is good, rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn and pull out from the old housing. Handle the bulb by the base only. If replacing the bulb, release the wire retaining clip and remove the old bulb. Insert the new H16 bulb without touching the glass, secure the retaining clip, and install into the new housing by inserting and rotating clockwise until locked.
  8. 8
    Install new fog light assembly
Position the new fog light assembly into the bumper opening from behind, ensuring the mounting tabs align with the bracket holes. Push the assembly into place until it sits flush with the bumper. Thread in the two mounting bolts by hand first to ensure proper alignment.
  9. 9
    Torque mounting bolts
Using a 10mm socket and torque wrench, tighten the fog light mounting bolts to specification in a cross pattern (top bolt first, then bottom bolt). Verify the fog light assembly is seated flush against the bumper with no gaps.
    Torque spec
    Bracket Bolts20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
  10. 10
    Reconnect electrical connector
Push the electrical connector firmly onto the fog light assembly terminals until you hear or feel a distinct click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is fully locked. Ensure no wires are pinched or stressed.
  11. 11
    Reinstall wheel well splash shield
Position the splash shield back into place and secure with the original push pin retainers. Install the center portion of each push pin first, then press the center pin down to expand and lock. If any retainers are broken, replace with new ones. Reinstall any Phillips screws removed earlier.
    Torque spec
    Cover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Double-check that all fasteners are properly installed and torqued
  2. Ensure no tools or parts are left in the wheel well area
  3. Return steering wheel to center position

Verification

  • Turn ignition to ON position and activate fog lights to verify proper operation
  • Visually inspect that fog light is aligned properly and sits flush in bumper
  • Check that fog light beam pattern is correct and not aimed too high or low
  • Verify no warning lights or errors appear on instrument cluster
  • Confirm electrical connector is fully seated and secure
  • Test both fog lights if only one was replaced to ensure matching brightness and color
