This procedure covers removal and replacement of the fog light bulb on a 2018-2024 Toyota Camry with 2.5L I4 engine, accessed from the front wheel well.

Warnings

Allow fog lights to cool for at least 10 minutes before performing this work to avoid burns from hot bulb and housing
ℹ️Avoid touching the glass portion of new halogen bulb with bare hands as oils can cause premature failure

Tools required

10mm socket or wrenchEssential
Ratchet and extensionEssential
Flathead screwdriver or trim toolEssential
Nitrile gloves
Flashlight or work light

Parts

  • Fog light bulb H11 or H16 × 1 — Use OEM specification or equivalent

Preparation

  1. Turn off vehicle and remove key from ignition
  2. Turn steering wheel fully to the opposite side of the fog light being replaced (left for driver side, right for passenger side) to improve access
  3. Ensure fog lights have cooled if recently operated

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the wheel well liner
Locate the inner fender wheel well liner on the front of the vehicle behind the front wheel. Identify the plastic push clips and screws securing the front portion of the liner.
  2. 2
    Remove wheel well liner fasteners
Remove the plastic push clips by prying up the center pin with a flathead screwdriver, then pulling out the entire clip. Remove any 10mm screws securing the front portion of the wheel well liner. You only need to detach the front corner section, not the entire liner.
  3. 3
Pull back the wheel well liner
Carefully pull back the front portion of the inner fender liner to expose the back of the fog light housing. You should see the fog light bulb connector and housing assembly.
  4. 4
    Disconnect the fog light connector
Locate the electrical connector attached to the fog light bulb socket. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the bulb socket. Do not pull on the wires themselves.
  5. 5
    Remove the bulb socket
Rotate the fog light bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it releases from the fog light housing. Pull the socket straight out to remove it along with the old bulb.
  6. 6
    Remove the old bulb
Pull the old bulb straight out from the socket. The bulb is a friction fit and should come out with moderate pulling force. Inspect the socket for any signs of corrosion, melting, or damage.
  7. 7
    Install the new bulb
Using a clean nitrile glove or tissue, insert the new H11 or H16 bulb into the socket. Push it in firmly until it seats completely. Avoid touching the glass envelope with bare skin.
  8. 8
    Reinstall the bulb socket
Insert the socket with the new bulb back into the fog light housing. Align the tabs on the socket with the slots in the housing, then rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks in place.
  9. 9
    Reconnect the electrical connector
Push the electrical connector onto the bulb socket until you hear or feel a click. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely attached.
  10. 10
    Reinstall the wheel well liner
Position the wheel well liner back into place. Reinstall all 10mm screws and plastic push clips. For push clips, insert the clip body first, then press the center pin down until it is flush with the clip body.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all wheel well liner fasteners are properly secured to prevent rattling or liner displacement
  2. Return steering wheel to center position

Verification

  • Start the vehicle and turn on the fog lights to verify the new bulb is functioning properly
  • Visually inspect that both fog lights illuminate with equal brightness
  • Check that the wheel well liner is secure and no fasteners are loose or missing
