Parts
- Front grille assembly × 1 — 53101-06230 or equivalent OEM
- Grille mounting clips × 8 — Use OEM specification
- Trim clips × 6 — 90467-07211 or equivalent
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn off engine and allow to cool completely if recently driven
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Disconnect negative battery terminal if vehicle has active safety sensors behind grille (wait 90 seconds after disconnect)
- Photograph grille alignment and clip positions for reference during reinstallation
Procedure
- 1Remove hood release trim coverLocate the small trim cover above the grille near the hood release area. Use a trim removal tool to carefully pry the cover away from the mounting clips. Set aside with fasteners for reinstallation.
- 2Remove upper grille mounting screwsLocate the grille mounting screws along the top edge of the grille assembly (typically 4-6 screws). Use a 10mm socket to remove these screws. Keep screws organized as they will be reused during installation.Torque specGrille Mounting Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 3Release upper grille clipsStarting from one side, use a trim removal tool to carefully release the upper retaining clips that secure the grille to the radiator support. There are typically 4-6 clips along the top edge. Apply gentle outward pressure while releasing each clip to avoid breaking them.
- 4Disconnect lower grille tabsReach behind the lower portion of the grille and locate the lower mounting tabs that insert into slots in the bumper cover. Press the release tabs while gently pulling the grille forward to disengage. Work from one side to the other.
- 5Release side mounting clipsLocate the side mounting clips on both left and right edges of the grille where it meets the headlight assemblies. Use a trim tool to carefully release these clips by pressing the center tab while pulling the grille away from the body.
- 6Remove grille assemblyWith all fasteners and clips released, carefully pull the grille assembly forward and away from the vehicle. Maneuver around any wiring harnesses or sensor connectors if present. If equipped with emblem lighting, disconnect the electrical connector before fully removing the grille.
- 7Inspect mounting points and clipsExamine all mounting points on the radiator support and bumper cover for damage. Check all clips removed with the grille for cracks or deformation. Replace any damaged clips. Clean mounting surfaces of dirt and debris.
- 8Prepare new grille assemblyTransfer any reusable components from the old grille to the new one if necessary (emblems, sensors, etc.). Install new mounting clips into the grille assembly in their proper positions. Verify all clips are fully seated and oriented correctly.Torque specClips5 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 9Install grille assemblyIf equipped with emblem lighting, connect the electrical connector first. Position the grille assembly in front of the vehicle and align the lower tabs with their corresponding slots in the bumper cover. Insert the lower tabs first, then align the upper portion with the radiator support.
- 10Secure grille clips and fastenersPress firmly along all edges of the grille to engage all retaining clips. You should hear or feel each clip snap into place. Install the upper mounting screws hand-tight first to ensure proper alignment, then torque to specification using a torque wrench.Torque specGrille Mounting Screws3 Nm (2 lb-ft)
- 11Reinstall hood release trim coverAlign the trim cover with its mounting location and press firmly to engage the retaining clips. Ensure the cover is flush and properly seated.
Reassembly
- Verify all clips are fully engaged by gently pulling on the grille at multiple points - it should not move or flex
- Check that grille alignment matches surrounding body panels with even gaps on both sides
- Reconnect negative battery terminal if it was disconnected, then wait 10 seconds before starting vehicle
- If vehicle has adaptive cruise control or pre-collision system, the radar may require recalibration at a dealership after grille replacement
Verification
- Visually inspect grille alignment with headlights and bumper cover - gaps should be even on both sides
- Gently push and pull on the grille at multiple points to confirm all clips are engaged and the assembly is secure
- Close and open the hood to verify no interference with the grille assembly
- If equipped with active safety systems, verify no warning lights are illuminated on the instrument cluster after reconnecting battery
- Test emblem lighting if equipped by turning on parking lights
- Check that all trim pieces and covers are properly reinstalled and seated
