Parts
- Heated seat module (driver or passenger side) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition off and remove key fob from vehicle
- Allow seat heater to cool completely if recently used (minimum 30 minutes)
- Move seat to full forward or rearward position depending on which side provides better access to module mounting location
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds for system discharge
Procedure
- 1Disconnect batteryLoosen and remove the negative battery terminal using a 10mm socket. Move the cable away from the battery post and secure it so it cannot make contact. Wait a minimum of 90 seconds for all electrical systems to discharge.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 2Access under-seat areaAdjust the seat to its full forward or rearward position (whichever provides better access to the module location). On most Camry models, the heated seat module is located under the seat cushion on the outboard side. Use a flashlight to locate the module, which is a small black box approximately 3x4 inches with multiple wire connectors.
- 3Locate and identify heated seat moduleIdentify the heated seat module by locating the component with heated seat harness connectors (typically 2-4 connectors). The module will be mounted to the seat frame or floor bracket with mounting bolts. Take photos of all connector positions and wire routing for reference during reinstallation.
- 4Disconnect electrical connectorsCarefully disconnect all electrical connectors from the heated seat module. Most connectors have a locking tab that must be pressed or lifted before pulling the connector straight out. Do not pull on the wires themselves. Note the orientation and position of each connector.⚠Do not force connectors. If resistance is felt, verify the locking tab is fully released before pulling.
- 5Remove module mounting boltsUsing a 10mm socket, remove the mounting bolts securing the heated seat module to the seat frame or bracket. There are typically 2-3 bolts per module. Support the module with one hand while removing the final bolt to prevent it from falling.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 6Remove heated seat moduleCarefully remove the heated seat module from its mounting location. Inspect the mounting area for any debris, corrosion, or damage. Clean the mounting surface if necessary with a shop towel.
- 7Install new heated seat modulePosition the new heated seat module in the mounting location, ensuring it is oriented correctly and all mounting holes align with the bracket or seat frame. Hand-thread all mounting bolts first to ensure proper alignment before tightening.
- 8Torque module mounting boltsUsing a torque wrench, tighten the module mounting bolts in a cross-pattern (if applicable) to ensure even seating. Torque to specification.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect electrical connectorsReconnect all electrical connectors to the heated seat module in their original positions as documented in your reference photos. Ensure each connector clicks into place and the locking tabs are fully engaged. Gently tug on each connector to verify secure connection.
- 10Reconnect batteryReconnect the negative battery terminal and torque to specification. Do not overtighten as this can damage the battery terminal.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
Reassembly
- Return seat to normal operating position
- Verify all connectors are fully seated and locked
- Ensure no wires are pinched or stressed by seat movement
- Confirm module is securely mounted and does not rattle when seat is moved
Verification
- Turn ignition to ON position (engine does not need to be running)
- Press the heated seat button for the replaced module side
- Verify the heated seat indicator light illuminates on the dashboard or button
- Allow 2-3 minutes for seat to begin warming and verify heat is being generated
- Test seat movement through full range to ensure no interference with module or wiring
- Verify no warning lights or error messages appear on instrument cluster
- Test all heat settings (low, medium, high if applicable) to confirm proper operation
