Parts

  • Dashboard speaker × 1 — Use OEM specification or aftermarket equivalent

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
  3. Open hood and disconnect negative battery terminal
  4. Wait at least 90 seconds for airbag system capacitors to discharge
  5. Gather all necessary tools and replacement speaker

Procedure

  1. 1
    Access the Dashboard Speaker Grille
Locate the dashboard speaker grille on top of the dashboard at the desired corner (driver or passenger side). The grille is a perforated plastic cover integrated into the dashboard surface.
  2. 2
    Remove Speaker Grille
Using a trim removal tool, carefully pry up the speaker grille starting from the rear edge (closest to the windshield). Work the tool around the perimeter to release the retaining clips. There are typically 2-3 clips holding the grille in place. Lift the grille away from the dashboard.
Apply gentle pressure when prying to avoid breaking the plastic clips or cracking the grille
  3. 3
    Remove Speaker Mounting Screws
With the grille removed, you will see the speaker housing. Remove the Phillips head screws securing the speaker to the dashboard bracket. There are typically 2-3 screws per speaker. Keep these screws in a safe place for reinstallation.
  4. 4
    Disconnect Speaker Connector
Carefully lift the speaker enough to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the old speaker from the dashboard.
  5. 5
    Install New Speaker
Connect the electrical connector to the new speaker by pressing it firmly onto the speaker terminals until it clicks into place. Position the new speaker into the dashboard bracket, aligning the mounting holes.
  6. 6
    Secure Speaker with Screws
Install the Phillips head screws through the speaker mounting holes into the dashboard bracket. Tighten the screws evenly in a cross pattern to ensure proper seating. Do not overtighten as this may crack the speaker housing.
  7. 7
    Reinstall Speaker Grille
Align the speaker grille over the speaker opening, ensuring all clips line up with their receptacles in the dashboard. Press firmly around the perimeter of the grille until all clips snap into place and the grille sits flush with the dashboard surface.
  8. 8
    Reconnect Battery and Test
Return to the engine bay and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Tighten the terminal bolt to specification. Start the vehicle and test the speaker function through the audio system, checking all audio sources and balance settings to verify proper operation.
    Torque spec
    Battery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)

Reassembly

  1. Ensure speaker grille is fully seated and all clips are engaged
  2. Verify no gaps exist between the grille and dashboard surface
  3. Check that all tools and fasteners have been accounted for

Verification

  • Test speaker at various volume levels to ensure no distortion or rattling
  • Verify speaker produces sound from all audio sources (radio, Bluetooth, navigation)
  • Use balance and fade controls to confirm the replaced speaker is functioning independently
  • Listen for any buzzing or loose component noises from the dashboard area
  • Confirm speaker grille is secure and does not rattle over bumps
