Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
- Open hood and disconnect negative battery terminal
- Wait at least 90 seconds for airbag system capacitors to discharge
- Gather all necessary tools and replacement speaker
Procedure
- 1Access the Dashboard Speaker GrilleLocate the dashboard speaker grille on top of the dashboard at the desired corner (driver or passenger side). The grille is a perforated plastic cover integrated into the dashboard surface.
- 2Remove Speaker GrilleUsing a trim removal tool, carefully pry up the speaker grille starting from the rear edge (closest to the windshield). Work the tool around the perimeter to release the retaining clips. There are typically 2-3 clips holding the grille in place. Lift the grille away from the dashboard.⚠Apply gentle pressure when prying to avoid breaking the plastic clips or cracking the grille
- 3Remove Speaker Mounting ScrewsWith the grille removed, you will see the speaker housing. Remove the Phillips head screws securing the speaker to the dashboard bracket. There are typically 2-3 screws per speaker. Keep these screws in a safe place for reinstallation.
- 4Disconnect Speaker ConnectorCarefully lift the speaker enough to access the electrical connector on the back. Press the release tab on the connector and pull it straight off the speaker terminals. Remove the old speaker from the dashboard.
- 5Install New SpeakerConnect the electrical connector to the new speaker by pressing it firmly onto the speaker terminals until it clicks into place. Position the new speaker into the dashboard bracket, aligning the mounting holes.
- 6Secure Speaker with ScrewsInstall the Phillips head screws through the speaker mounting holes into the dashboard bracket. Tighten the screws evenly in a cross pattern to ensure proper seating. Do not overtighten as this may crack the speaker housing.
- 7Reinstall Speaker GrilleAlign the speaker grille over the speaker opening, ensuring all clips line up with their receptacles in the dashboard. Press firmly around the perimeter of the grille until all clips snap into place and the grille sits flush with the dashboard surface.
- 8Reconnect Battery and TestReturn to the engine bay and reconnect the negative battery terminal. Tighten the terminal bolt to specification. Start the vehicle and test the speaker function through the audio system, checking all audio sources and balance settings to verify proper operation.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
