Turn Signal Bulb - Rear

This procedure covers the replacement of the rear turn signal bulb on a 2018-2024 Toyota Camry with 2.5L I4 engine, accessed from inside the trunk.

• Rear turn signal bulb × 1 — 7440A or equivalent amber bulb

Preparation

1. Park vehicle on level surface and turn off ignition
2. Open trunk and ensure adequate lighting for work area
3. Identify which side (left or right) requires bulb replacement

Procedure

1. 1

   Access trunk interior panel
   Locate the interior trunk trim panel on the side where the bulb needs replacement. The panel is directly behind the tail light assembly.

   Remove trunk trim fasteners
   Remove the plastic push clips or fasteners securing the trunk side trim panel. Gently pull the trim panel away to expose the back of the tail light assembly. Some models may have fold-back fabric panels instead of rigid trim.

   Locate turn signal bulb socket
   Identify the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the tail light assembly. The turn signal is typically the amber-colored socket, usually positioned in the upper or middle section of the assembly. It will have a wiring harness connector attached.

   Remove bulb socket
   Rotate the turn signal bulb socket counterclockwise approximately 1/4 turn (90 degrees) and pull it straight out from the tail light housing. Do not pull on the wires; grip the socket body firmly.

   Remove failed bulb
   With the socket removed, press the bulb gently into the socket and rotate counterclockwise to unlock it from the bayonet-style mount. Pull the bulb straight out of the socket. Inspect the socket for any corrosion or damage.

   Install new bulb
   Insert the new 7440A amber turn signal bulb into the socket. Press in gently and rotate clockwise until it locks into place. Ensure the bulb is securely seated in the socket and cannot move freely.

   Reinstall socket into housing
   Insert the bulb socket back into the tail light assembly, aligning the tabs with the slots. Rotate clockwise approximately 1/4 turn until it locks into position. Gently tug on the socket to verify it is secure.

   Test turn signal operation
   Before reinstalling trim panels, turn the ignition to the ON position (engine does not need to run) and activate the turn signal for the side you just replaced. Verify the bulb illuminates and flashes at the correct rate. Check that all other tail light functions still operate normally.

   Reinstall trunk trim
   Reposition the trunk interior trim panel and secure all push clips or fasteners. Ensure the panel is flush and properly seated along all edges.

Reassembly

1. Ensure all trunk trim panels are properly secured and aligned
2. Verify no tools or parts are left in the trunk area
3. Close trunk and perform final operational test of turn signals

Verification

• Turn on ignition and activate turn signals on both sides to verify proper operation
• Check that the turn signal flashes at normal speed (not rapid or slow)
• Walk around vehicle to visually confirm both front and rear turn signals illuminate on the repaired side
• Verify hazard lights function properly with all four corners flashing
