Parts
- Front wiper motor assembly × 1 — 85110-06180 or equivalent OEM
- Wiper motor gasket/seal × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Mark wiper arm positions with tape or marker at rest position
- Open hood and secure with prop rod
- Disconnect battery negative terminal and wait 90 seconds
- Cover fenders with protective blankets to prevent scratches
Procedure
- 1Remove wiper armsLift each wiper arm away from windshield and locate the retaining nut at the base. Remove the 14mm nut from each wiper arm. Gently rock the arm while pulling away from the pivot post. If arms are stuck, use a wiper arm puller tool to avoid damage. Remove both driver and passenger side wiper arms completely.
- 2Remove cowl cover panelsRemove the windshield cowl cover screws along the top edge of the cowl. There are typically 6-8 screws securing the cowl panels. Gently lift and remove the cowl cover panels, starting from the passenger side and working toward the driver side. Disconnect the washer nozzle hoses by pressing the release tabs and pulling hoses free. Set cowl panels aside.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 3Disconnect wiper motor electrical connectorLocate the wiper motor electrical connector on the driver side of the wiper motor assembly. Press the locking tab and pull the connector straight off the motor. Ensure no water or debris has entered the connector. If connector appears corroded, clean with electrical contact cleaner.
- 4Disconnect ground strapLocate the ground strap bolt connecting the wiper motor assembly to the vehicle body. This is typically a 10mm bolt. Remove the ground strap bolt and clean both the strap terminal and mounting surface with a wire brush or sandpaper to ensure good electrical contact during reinstallation. Remove any rust or oxidation from contact surfaces.⚠Clean ground contact surfaces thoroughly - poor ground connection will cause intermittent wiper operationTorque specGround Strap Bolt14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 5Remove wiper linkage mounting boltsLocate the three or four mounting bolts securing the wiper motor and linkage assembly to the cowl panel frame. These are typically 12mm bolts. Remove all mounting bolts while supporting the assembly to prevent it from falling. Note the location of any brackets or spacers for reinstallation.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 6Remove wiper motor assemblyCarefully maneuver the wiper motor and linkage assembly out from under the cowl area. The assembly must be tilted and rotated to clear the cowl structure. Guide the motor out toward the driver side, being careful not to damage the linkage arms or pivot points. Inspect the old motor for signs of failure such as burnt windings, water intrusion, or binding linkage.
- 7Transfer components if necessaryIf the new wiper motor does not include the linkage assembly, remove the linkage from the old motor by removing the motor-to-linkage bracket bolts. Ensure the crank arm position matches between old and new motors. Transfer any brackets, spacers, or insulators from the old assembly to the new one. Apply a small amount of grease to linkage pivot points.Torque specBracket Bolts20 Nm (15 lb-ft)
- 8Install new wiper motor assemblyPosition the new wiper motor and linkage assembly into the cowl area, reversing the removal process. Align the mounting holes with the cowl frame. Install all mounting bolts finger-tight first to ensure proper alignment, then torque to specification in a cross pattern to prevent distortion.Torque specModule Mounting Bolts8 Nm (6 lb-ft)
- 9Reconnect ground strapPosition the ground strap over its mounting stud or bolt hole. Ensure contact surfaces remain clean. Install the ground strap bolt and torque to specification. Verify the ground connection is secure with no movement or looseness.Torque specGround Strap Bolt14 Nm (10 lb-ft)
- 10Reconnect electrical connectorPlug the electrical connector firmly into the wiper motor until the locking tab clicks into place. Tug gently on the connector to verify it is fully seated and locked. Ensure no pins are bent and the connector seal is properly positioned.
- 11Test wiper motor operationReconnect the battery negative terminal and torque to specification. Without installing wiper arms or cowl covers, turn the ignition to ON position and test wiper motor operation through all speed settings and intermittent modes. Verify the motor parks correctly in the off position. Check for unusual noises or binding. If motor does not operate correctly, recheck all connections and ground strap.Torque specBattery Terminal Bolts6 Nm (4 lb-ft)
- 12Reinstall cowl cover panelsReconnect the washer nozzle hoses by pushing them onto the nozzles until they click into place. Position the cowl cover panels, starting from the driver side. Align all mounting points and install cowl cover screws, torquing to specification. Ensure panels are seated flush with no gaps.Torque specCover Screws11 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 13Install wiper armsWith wipers in park position, align wiper arms to the marked positions from preparation. Place each wiper arm onto its pivot post with the blade at the correct park position on the windshield. Install and hand-tighten the 14mm retaining nut on each arm. Press down firmly on each wiper arm base while tightening nuts to ensure full seating on the tapered splines.
Reassembly
- Verify all mounting bolts are torqued to specification
- Ensure cowl covers are properly seated with no rattles
- Check that wiper arms park in the correct position marked during disassembly
- Confirm all electrical connections are secure and fully seated
Verification
- Test wipers on DRY windshield briefly or spray washer fluid first - never run wipers on dry glass
- Verify all wiper speeds function correctly: intermittent, low, and high
- Confirm wipers park in the correct position when turned off
- Check for any unusual noises, vibration, or hesitation during operation
- Verify washer fluid sprays correctly if nozzles were disturbed
- Ensure cowl panels are secure with no wind noise at highway speeds
