Parts
- Climate control module (HVAC control unit) × 1 — 55900-02570 or equivalent
- Trim panel clips (if broken during removal) × 1 — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
- Turn ignition to OFF position and remove key
- Disconnect negative battery terminal and wait 90 seconds
- Allow interior to cool if vehicle has been running with heater on
- Gather all tools and replacement parts before beginning
Procedure
- 1Remove center console trim panelUsing trim panel removal tools, carefully pry out the lower center console trim panel surrounding the climate control module. Start at the bottom edges and work upward. The panel is secured by plastic clips only. Pull gently outward once clips are released.
- 2Remove upper dash trim bezelCarefully pry out the upper dash trim bezel that surrounds the radio and climate control module. This piece extends from the hazard light switch area down to the climate controls. Use trim tools at the edges and work around the perimeter to release all clips. Do not pull from the center.
- 3Remove climate control mounting screwsLocate and remove the two or four screws securing the climate control module to the dash frame. These are typically located at the corners of the module. Use a 10mm socket or Phillips screwdriver depending on model year. Keep screws organized for reassembly.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 4Pull module forwardGently pull the climate control module forward out of the dash cavity. Pull straight out approximately 4-6 inches to access the electrical connectors on the rear. Support the module with one hand while accessing connectors.
- 5Disconnect electrical connectorsDisconnect all electrical connectors from the rear of the climate control module. There are typically 2-3 connectors depending on features (manual or automatic climate control). Press the release tabs while pulling the connectors straight back. Note the orientation and position of each connector.
- 6Remove old climate control moduleOnce all electrical connections are disconnected, fully remove the climate control module from the dash. Inspect the mounting area for any debris or damage before installing the new unit.
- 7Install new climate control modulePosition the new climate control module near the dash opening. Reconnect all electrical connectors to the rear of the new module, ensuring each connector clicks into place securely. Match connectors to their original positions using reference photos.
- 8Secure module to dashCarefully push the climate control module into the dash cavity, ensuring it seats flush with the surrounding trim. Install and tighten the mounting screws to the specified torque. Do not overtighten as the dash structure is plastic.Torque specCover Screws10 Nm (8 lb-ft)
- 9Reinstall trim panelsReinstall the upper dash trim bezel by aligning all clips and pressing firmly around the perimeter until all clips engage. Then reinstall the lower center console trim panel in the same manner. Ensure all panels are flush and gaps are even.
- 10Reconnect battery and testReconnect the negative battery terminal. Start the vehicle and test all climate control functions including fan speeds, temperature adjustment, mode selection, and air conditioning/heating operation. Test all buttons and knobs for proper operation.
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connectors are fully seated and locked before pushing module into dash
- Verify trim panels are aligned properly before pressing clips into place
- Check that all buttons, knobs, and displays are accessible and not obstructed by trim panels
Verification
- Start vehicle and verify climate control module powers on and display illuminates
- Test all fan speed settings from low to high
- Verify temperature adjustment works in both hot and cold directions
- Test all mode selections (defrost, floor, vent, bi-level)
- Verify air conditioning compressor engages when AC button is pressed
- Check that recirculation button functions properly
- Ensure all trim panels are secure with no rattles or loose clips
- Verify no warning lights appear on instrument cluster related to climate system
