  • Engine air filter × 1 — Toyota 17801-0P051 or equivalent
  • Cabin air filter × 1 — Toyota 87139-02090 or equivalent

Fluids

  • Toyota Genuine 0W-20 Engine Oil — 5 qt
  • Windshield Washer Fluid — 0.5 qt

Preparation

  1. Park vehicle on level surface and engage parking brake
  2. Place wheel chocks behind rear wheels
  3. Allow engine to cool completely if recently driven
  4. Gather all tools, parts, and fluids before beginning
  5. Open hood and prop securely

Procedure

  1. 1
Raise vehicle and remove engine covers
Lift front of vehicle using floor jack at designated front jacking point. Secure with jack stands under frame rails. Remove plastic engine splash shield if present by removing fasteners. Locate oil drain plug on passenger side of oil pan.
  2. 2
    Drain engine oil
Position drain pan under oil drain plug. Using 14mm socket, loosen oil drain plug slowly. Allow oil to drain completely for at least 10 minutes. Remove and discard old crush washer from drain plug. Clean drain plug threads and sealing surface on oil pan. Install new crush washer on drain plug.
Oil may still be warm. Wear gloves to prevent burns.
  3. 3
    Install oil drain plug
Thread oil drain plug by hand to ensure proper seating. Once hand-tight, use torque wrench and 14mm socket to tighten drain plug to specification. Wipe area clean with shop towel.
  4. 4
    Replace oil filter
Locate oil filter on front passenger side of engine block, accessible from below. Position drain pan under filter. Use oil filter wrench to remove old filter by turning counterclockwise. Clean filter mounting surface on engine block. Apply thin coat of fresh engine oil to rubber gasket of new filter. Install new filter by hand, tightening until gasket contacts mounting surface, then turn an additional 3/4 turn. Do not use filter wrench for installation.
  5. 5
    Fill engine with oil
Lower vehicle from jack stands. Locate oil filler cap on top of engine (driver side). Remove cap and insert funnel. Add 4.5 quarts of Toyota Genuine 0W-20 engine oil initially. Wait 2 minutes for oil to settle, then check dipstick. Add remaining oil in small increments until level reaches upper mark on dipstick. Install oil filler cap securely.
  6. 6
    Replace engine air filter
Locate air filter housing on passenger side of engine bay. Release four spring clips securing air box cover. Lift cover and remove old engine air filter. Inspect air box for debris and clean if necessary. Install new air filter ensuring proper seating with rubber seal facing down. Close cover and secure all four clips until they click.
  7. 7
    Replace cabin air filter
Open glove box. Press sides of glove box inward to release stoppers and lower fully. Remove cabin air filter cover by pressing tabs. Slide out old cabin air filter, noting airflow direction arrows. Install new cabin air filter with airflow arrows pointing toward rear of vehicle. Reinstall filter cover and return glove box to normal position.
  8. 8
    Inspect and top off fluids
Check brake fluid reservoir (driver side firewall) - level should be between MIN and MAX. Check engine coolant reservoir (passenger side) - level should be between LOW and FULL when cold. Top off windshield washer fluid reservoir as needed. Visually inspect for any fluid leaks around engine bay.
Never open coolant reservoir cap when engine is hot - pressurized system may cause burns.
  9. 9
Start engine and check for leaks
Start engine and allow to idle for 5 minutes. Monitor oil pressure warning light - it should extinguish within 2-3 seconds. Raise vehicle and inspect oil drain plug and oil filter areas for any leaks. Lower vehicle. Shut off engine and wait 5 minutes. Recheck oil level on dipstick and add if necessary to bring to upper mark.
  10. 10
    Rotate and inspect tires
Raise vehicle and remove all four wheels. Inspect tires for uneven wear, damage, and proper tread depth (minimum 2/32 inch). Rotate tires using front-to-rear pattern (front wheels to rear same side, rear wheels to front same side for FWD). Install wheels and hand-tighten lug nuts. Lower vehicle partially so tires contact ground but suspension is not loaded. Torque lug nuts to specification in star pattern. Lower vehicle completely.
  11. 11
Set tire pressures and perform multi-point inspection
Adjust all four tires to 36 PSI cold (or pressure listed on driver door jamb sticker). Inspect brake pads through wheel spokes for wear - minimum 3mm thickness. Check condition of wiper blades and windshield for chips. Inspect drive belts for cracks or glazing. Check battery terminals for corrosion. Test all exterior lights for proper operation.
  12. 12
    Reset maintenance reminder
Turn ignition to ON position without starting engine. Using steering wheel controls or center display, navigate to Settings > Vehicle Settings > Maintenance System. Select Oil Change or 30K Service and reset counter to zero. If equipped with Toyota Connected Services, maintenance record will sync automatically.

Reassembly

  1. Ensure all fluid caps are installed and properly tightened
  2. Verify engine splash shield is reinstalled if removed
  3. Confirm all tools are removed from engine bay before closing hood
  4. Properly dispose of used engine oil and filter at approved recycling facility

Verification

  • Start engine and verify no warning lights remain illuminated
  • Check under vehicle for any fluid leaks after initial startup
  • Verify oil level is at upper mark on dipstick after engine reaches operating temperature
  • Test drive vehicle and listen for any unusual noises
  • Confirm all tires are properly torqued by rechecking lug nuts after 50 miles
  • Verify maintenance reminder has been successfully reset
