Parts
- Blower motor assembly × 1 — Use OEM specification
- Push-pin retainers (if damaged) — Use OEM specification
Preparation
- Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake
- Turn off the ignition and remove the key
- Move the passenger seat fully rearward for maximum working space
- Allow the HVAC system to cool if recently operated
Procedure
- 1Remove passenger side lower trim panelLocate the lower trim panel beneath the glove box on the passenger side. Remove the push-pin retainers and fasteners securing the lower trim panel. Carefully pull the panel away from the mounting clips and set aside.
- 2Access blower motor compartmentLocate the blower motor cover on the right side of the HVAC unit in the passenger footwell area. The cover is rectangular and typically has 2-3 screws securing it. Remove the cover screws and set the cover aside.
- 3Disconnect blower motor electrical connectorLocate the electrical connector attached to the blower motor. Press the locking tab on the connector and pull it straight off the motor terminals. Do not pull on the wires themselves.
- 4Remove blower motor mounting screwsLocate the three mounting screws that secure the blower motor assembly to the HVAC housing. These screws are typically positioned around the perimeter of the motor. Remove all three screws using a 7mm socket or nut driver.ℹ️Support the blower motor with one hand while removing the final screw to prevent it from falling.Torque specBlower Motor Screws4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 5Remove blower motor assemblyCarefully pull the blower motor assembly straight out of the HVAC housing. You may need to rotate it slightly to clear the housing opening. The motor will come out with the squirrel cage fan attached. Inspect the old motor and fan for debris or damage.
- 6Inspect and clean housingWith the blower motor removed, inspect the HVAC housing for debris, leaves, or other obstructions. Clean out any debris using a vacuum or compressed air. Check the blower motor resistor for signs of burning or damage.
- 7Install new blower motorPosition the new blower motor assembly so the mounting holes align with the HVAC housing. Carefully insert the motor into the housing, ensuring the fan blades do not contact the housing walls. Install the three mounting screws and tighten to specification in a cross pattern.Torque specBlower Motor Screws4 Nm (3 lb-ft)
- 8Reconnect electrical connectorPush the electrical connector firmly onto the blower motor terminals until you hear or feel the locking tab click into place. Gently tug on the connector to verify it is securely attached.
- 9Test blower motor operationBefore reinstalling the cover, turn the ignition to ON position and test the blower motor at all speed settings (low, medium, high). Verify smooth operation with no unusual noises, vibrations, or binding. Turn ignition off after testing.⚠Keep hands and tools clear of the spinning fan during testing.
- 10Reinstall blower motor coverPosition the blower motor cover over the opening and install the cover screws. Tighten the screws to specification, being careful not to overtighten and strip the plastic housing.
- 11Reinstall lower trim panelAlign the passenger side lower trim panel with the mounting points. Push the panel firmly into place to engage the mounting clips. Install any screws or push-pin retainers that were removed. Return the passenger seat to desired position.
Reassembly
- Ensure all electrical connections are secure and properly locked
- Verify all trim panels are properly seated and fasteners are installed
- Double-check that no tools or parts were left in the passenger footwell area
Verification
- Start the engine and test the blower motor at all fan speed settings
- Verify airflow is strong and consistent at each speed setting
- Listen for any unusual noises such as squealing, grinding, or rattling
- Check that air direction controls work properly with the new blower motor
- Verify no air leaks are present around the blower motor cover
